Position Overview

The Vice President of Clinical Affairs (VPCA) provides executive leadership over the clinical capabilities, programs, and infrastructure that advance medical quality, patient safety, clinician development, scientific contribution, and workforce readiness across BluePearl.

Leading through a high-performing team of Clinical Affairs directors and cross-functional partners, the VPCA establishes enterprise vision, governance, and execution across:

• House Officer and Clinical Training Programs (Internships, Residencies, EmERge™)
• ER and Specialty Development, Telehealth, and Continuing Education
• Medical Quality, Patient Safety, and Clinical Governance
• Clinical Science, Research, and Scientific Publications
• National Blood Banking and Stewardship Initiatives
• The BluePearl Clinical Training Center
  

What You’ll Do (Key Responsibilities)

1. Enterprise Clinical Strategy & Organizational Leadership

• Translate clinical strategy into prioritized, scalable roadmaps and sustainable delivery models aligned with hospital operations.
• Lead, mentor, and empower a team of Clinical Affairs Directors, building bench strength, accountability, and cross-functional influence.
• Partner with the Senior Leadership Team, Operations, P&O, Finance, and Mars Veterinary Health colleagues to integrate clinical excellence into core business strategy.
• Champion data-driven decision-making, using balanced KPIs to demonstrate clinical, workforce, and organizational value.

2. Training, Education & Workforce Development

• Direct strategic expansion and financial sustainability for House Officer programs (internships and residencies) and the flagship EmERge™ training program.
• Partner across Mars Veterinary Health banners to pioneer globalized curricula and shared learning models.
• Foster high-impact relationships with veterinary colleges, university deans, and external organizations (e.g., U.S. military / VET-TRAUMA) to develop joint residency and training pathways.
• Oversee hands-on wet labs (ultrasound, endoscopy, ER procedures), CE partnerships (including VetGirl), and scalable telehealth/clinical-support platforms.

3. Medical Quality, Patient Safety & Clinical Governance

• Lead the national rollout and adoption of evidence-based quality initiatives, clinical practice guidelines, and care protocols.
• Foster a transparent, proactive Culture of Safety, expanding patient-safety event reporting and structured organizational learning.

4. Clinical Science, Blood Banking & Sustainability

• Partner with the Mars Veterinary Health Science Team to establish robust research infrastructure, mentorship, and publication support for trainees and clinicians.
• Drive operational maturation, growth, and waste reduction for BluePearl’s community blood banking programs.
• Champion sustainability and stewardship initiatives, including antimicrobial stewardship, hospital pilots, and anesthetic-gas recapture programs.

5. Clinical Training Center & Resource Optimization

• Provide executive oversight, capital allocation, and scheduling governance for the dedicated Clinical Training Center.
• Streamline operating models and eliminate system bottlenecks so clinical teams can focus on patient care and education.

What You’ll Bring (Qualifications & Experience)
Education & Credentials

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM / VMD) from an accredited institution (Required).
• AVMA-recognized Board Certification in a clinical veterinary specialty (Preferred).
• Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA), Healthcare Administration (MHA), Public Health (MPH), Education, or a related field (Preferred).

Experience & Capabilities

• 8+ years of progressive, senior leadership experience in the veterinary or healthcare industry (Required).
• Proven track record leading leaders, developing high-performing teams, and driving organizational succession planning.
• Demonstrated expertise translating high-level medical strategy into operational execution across multi-site or matrixed organizations.
• Strong background in veterinary clinical education, house officer programs, medical quality/patient safety, or clinical research.
• Experience building academic-private partnerships or working in academic veterinary medicine (Preferred).
• Familiarity with veterinary practice management software (e.g., ezyVet, Instinct) and collaboration tools (e.g., Smartsheet) (Preferred).
