About DTID

The Digital Technology Institute for Development (DTID) is an international non-profit institute advancing the responsible use of artificial intelligence, blockchain and emerging digital technologies to support sustainable development and policy implementation.

DTID brings together professionals, researchers, technology specialists and other stakeholders to generate research, develop practical solutions, strengthen partnerships and support informed decision-making at the intersection of technology, climate change and sustainable development.

The Role

DTID is seeking highly motivated and technically capable Technology Officers – Internet of Things (IoT) & Data Analysis to contribute to the development and application of IoT, data analysis, data science and data-modelling solutions across the organisation.

The successful candidates will support research, technical development and proof-of-concept initiatives involving connected technologies, datasets and analytical tools. They will work with technology specialists, researchers and other DTID teams to explore practical applications of IoT and data-driven technologies in areas including climate action, sustainability and international development.

The role requires strong technical capability, analytical thinking, independent research skills and the ability to translate technical concepts into practical applications.

Key Responsibilities

The Technology Officer – IoT & Data Analysis will:

  • Support the design, development, testing and implementation of IoT and data-analysis solutions.
  • Research and evaluate IoT technologies, datasets, analytical tools and technical approaches relevant to DTID projects.
  • Contribute to the development of prototypes, pilots and Proof-of-Concept applications.
  • Support data analysis, data science and data-modelling activities across DTID initiatives.
  • Contribute technical input to DTID research projects, technical papers and publications.
  • Assist with evaluating the quality, reliability, security and scalability of technology solutions.
  • Conduct independent technical research and analysis on developments in IoT, data science and emerging technologies.
  • Prepare and maintain technical documentation, specifications, reports and knowledge resources.
  • Collaborate with technology specialists, researchers and other teams across DTID.
  • Engage with relevant external experts, organisations and partners where appropriate.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of DTID's technology capabilities and technical practices.
  • Undertake other reasonable responsibilities relevant to the role as assigned by the reporting manager or senior leadership.

General and Specialist Knowledge

Candidates should have knowledge or experience in one or more of the following:

  • Internet of Things technologies, platforms and architectures.
  • Data analysis and data analytics.
  • Data science and machine learning.
  • Data modelling and data management.
  • Programming languages and analytical tools such as Python and R.
  • Machine-learning frameworks and libraries such as TensorFlow, PyTorch and Scikit-learn.
  • APIs and commonly used data formats including JSON, XML and CSV.
  • Cloud platforms such as AWS, Microsoft Azure or Google Cloud Platform.
  • Designing and deploying data-driven or connected technology solutions.
  • Data security, quality, governance, reliability and scalability.
  • Agile technology-development methodologies.
  • Software-development and technical-documentation practices.

Experience contributing to open-source projects or maintaining a GitHub portfolio would be advantageous.

Knowledge or interest in climate change, sustainability, international development, artificial intelligence, blockchain and other emerging digital technologies would also be advantageous.

Education and Training

Candidates should preferably possess:

  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree, diploma or equivalent qualification in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Data Science, Mathematics or another relevant discipline.

Relevant professional qualifications, certifications or specialist training in IoT, data analytics, data science, machine learning, cloud technologies or software development would be advantageous.

Equivalent technical training, professional experience or demonstrated capability may also be considered where appropriate.

  • Professional proficiency in English.

Knowledge of Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish or another international language would be advantageous.

Experience

Candidates should ideally demonstrate:

  • Professional or practical experience in IoT, data analysis, data science, data modelling or another related technical field.
  • Experience developing, testing or supporting IoT or data-driven applications.
  • Experience working with relevant programming languages, analytical frameworks and development tools.
  • Experience working with datasets, APIs or data-processing environments.
  • Experience contributing to technical projects, research or documentation.
  • Experience working independently and taking responsibility for assigned technical deliverables.
  • Experience collaborating within technical or multidisciplinary teams.

Experience using cloud platforms or contributing to Proof-of-Concept applications, open-source projects or a GitHub portfolio would be advantageous.

Experience within an international organisation, think tank, nonprofit organisation, research institution, technology organisation, climate or sustainability-focused organisation would also be advantageous.
