Description

Diversity matters
We are building a brand that represents the people of the world. It’s what you do that counts, and we are always looking to expand perspectives and voices to shape our future.

We see you, we celebrate you, we want you!

Who we are
You might know us as the inventors of the bath bomb, but there’s more to this great-smelling, partly employee-owned, family-run company than pioneering cosmetics. We believe our business should put more back into the world than it takes and demonstrate that capitalism can be a force for good.

The Living Wage Foundation’s statement 'a hard day's work deserves a fair day's pay' is one that we are proud to commit to in the UK. As an accredited Living Wage employer, we put our people first and fight cruel practices like animal testing, promote regeneration, and show that it is what’s inside that counts - whether that’s an ingredient in a product, or the minerals in a smartphone.

Job Title:
UK&I Ethical Campaigns Coordinator
Location: Remote UK&I
Salary: £30,000 to £35,000

Lush is more than just a fresh, handmade cosmetics company.  It is a company that wants to make skin, hair and bathing products in a way that benefits the world, not depletes it. We have strong opinions on nature, the environment, human rights & animal rights - and we try to build these into all our business practices.

Our search for best practice means we are constantly made aware of where the problems lay, and also brings us into close contact with others, such as charities, NGOs, activists and community groups who are working to make the world a better, safer, kinder place.

Over the years, Lush has made it a mission to help these groups, who share the same concerns as us, by helping fund their work and also, importantly, giving them a platform in our shop windows and websites to reach through to the public.

We have become known as a campaigning & giving company, for both our internal business practices and our willingness to highlight world issues in our windows. Staff and customers appreciate the integrity of Lush’s values, hold us to account and are an active part of upholding our standards. For them our campaigns are a source of inspiration and pride.

A rare opportunity has come up to join our small, worldwide Campaigns Team so we are now looking for the perfect person to join our team to further the Lush values, help shape our public facing campaigns and engage with external groups who are working to improve the world. This role would suit someone who is driven by a desire to shift public awareness, has experience of active campaigning and who has the ability to meaningfully engage with everyone from external grassroots activists to internal staff and company leadership.

We are looking for someone who is active in Human Rights, Animal Rights or Environmental issues and understands the landscape of campaigning and activism in the UK and is connected to it. We are excited to have someone new on our team who can represent young activists, those driving change through diversity and inclusion and bring awareness of voices that are less heard.

Success in this role is measured by an ability to shift public awareness, drive tangible legislative change or social action on the ground, and keep our shop floors actively engaged in our campaigns.

Working within the global campaigns team and alongside the global giving team to share ideas and support each other in various campaigns and giving projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Through your knowledge and participation in the UK campaigning landscape, you would highlight and suggest partnerships with progressive grassroots organisations, NGOs, and movements, including those that Lush may not have previously collaborated with.
  • Proposing creative angles for UK&I campaigns, keeping a close pulse on underrepresented or misrepresented groups and issues.
  • Maintaining authentic and respectful relationships with external partner organisations, activists, and charities.
  • Keeping in contact with our internal charitable giving team to see if there are opportunities to align our active campaign priorities and grassroots partners with their funding focus.
  • Communicating complex ethical or legislative topics into clear, inspiring educational materials, training guides, and window concepts in ways that help our retail staff bring these ideas to life on the shop floor.
  • Writing compelling campaign copy for internal and external communication, web articles, press mailers, and our active digital platforms (including LinkedIn, YouTube, Bluesky, etc.).
  • Helping develop creative concepts for campaign store windows, in-store activations, and public stunts, and a willingness to take part in person where required.
  • Collaborating with the PR team to draft press releases and secure meaningful earned media coverage, with an emphasis on the ethical issue and partner organisation, not on the Brand.
  • Working to maximise impact whilst resourcefully staying within our tight campaigns budget.
  • Provide post-campaign feedback to staff, where possible to include impact reporting, outcomes, petition numbers collected and any other interesting information or developments and feedback from the partner organisations.
  • Attending key business meetings to provide a sound moral compass, intersectional insight, and strategic guidance on core ethical positions, such as fighting animal testing, environmental initiatives and human rights impacts.
  • Actively collaborate across the internal business, participate in relevant meetings and circle discussions to help identify and refine proposals and promote open communication and healthy debate on key campaign directions to help early development of campaign ideas.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • A proven portfolio of existing experience, relationships, personal credibility, and active connections within the UK charity, NGO, or grassroots activist sectors.
  • A deep, intersectional understanding of current affairs across environmental defence, animal rights, and social justice, combined with the cultural sensitivity required to communicate complex social topics responsibly.
  • Highly organised, methodical, and capable of coordinating multi stakeholder projects (from complex copy sign offs to fast-moving public stunts) under tight deadlines.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills, with experience delivering presentations, training and filmed interviews.
  • A track record of planning and executing public-facing campaigns
  • But more than anything, our main requirement is for someone who would bring passion and integrity to the role, who could be respected and trusted by external organisations and be motivating and inspirational to our own internal staff.

Benefits

  • 25 days holiday plus bank holidays
  • 6 months of full pay for parental leave (primary caregiver must qualify for SMP)*
  • Enhanced paternity leave*
  • Bonus scheme
  • Day off for weekday birthdays
  • Holiday purchase scheme
  • 50% discount on Lush products and spa treatments
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Discounted rail and bus season tickets
  • Employee assistance programme
  • There’s a big difference between "Flexible Working " (the legal minimum) and working flexibly. What that looks like varies from role to role and location to location. We actively welcome conversations about what working flexibly could mean and look like for you.
  • We’re 10% Employee Owned - all colleagues play a role in protecting our ethics, our independence, contributing ideas for the future and share in the rewards of success when the company is doing well.
  • Wellbeing & mindfulness sessions
  • Access to employee-led Community Networks, including Disability and Chronic Illness, Family Support, Global Majority (Race and Ethnicity), LGBTQIA+, Menopause and Neurodiversity communities.
  • Tailored gender affirming care*
