SUMMARY: Under the general supervision of the Principle Investigator(s) and Project Director, provides database management and analysis of data from multiple grant projects and grants. Serves as data management project lead for assigned project team(s) to develop operational databases for data collection and study participant tracking, using a variety of software programs. Performs statistical analysis, predictive analytics and data mining. Documents, maintains, and ensures the confidentiality and integrity of the data. Provides a variety of reports summarizing project data. Gathers and organizes data to facilitate entry into computer. Performs a limited amount of data entry, and accesses information as requested to produce computer-assisted statistical analyses and other summary reports. Reviews results to detect and correct obvious errors. May be responsible for maintaining equipment and recommending changes to existing software to improve quality of data analysis. Reviews project questionnaires for completeness, following up as necessary with project staff to obtain missing data or to clarify information. The core Success Factors include: Instill Trust and Value Differences Patient and Community Focus and Collaborate RESPONSIBILITIES: In collaboration with the grant team and project team, determines the specifics of the project in order to support the data needs. This includes determining project needs, such as randomization, determining detail for client level data collection, developing tracking and referral components. Provides input to the establishment of time-lines to meet and support project goals and grant requirements. At start-up attends staff meetings to discuss collection process, data entry process and reporting needs. Once the study is underway, attends regular staff meetings as necessary to maintain and modify collection, entry or reporting processes. Formats data appropriately to facilitate data entry. May perform preliminary tabulation of data prior to data entry. Enter study information into database, display, store and retrieve study data. May write programs using computer and software compatible language to reformat information, create new files, etc. Ensures accuracy of data entry activities, correcting errors by deleting and entering corrections and/or additions to the data as necessary. Contributes to data analysis to determine grant specific custom database application requirements. Creates database tables in accordance with the forms and concepts of normalization. Designs graphical user interface (GUI) screens to provide user-friendly forms for use in local and remote data collection. Provides technical training and user support for project staff, study participants and data entry personnel. Contributes to the design, testing and debugging of databases. Maintains quality assurance, confidentiality and security of data through the use of field ranges, default values, skip patterns and error checking. Implements and monitors procedures to ensure accuracy and integrity of data. Implements and monitors data entry methods and data storage procedures to maintain subject/data confidentiality within Federal, Brown University Health and department guidelines. Through user and project team feedback and program development, provides enhancements to ensure optimal operation of database, quality of data and user productivity. Assists with maintaining computer equipment and devices, arranging for internal/external service to effect repairs for maintenance. May recommend modifications to existing or development/purchase of new software to enhance quality of data analysis. Prepares data set for descriptive statistical analysis. Performs preliminary analysis, which includes frequencies, means and sums. Using statistical analysis software, executes code for established scoring of standard measures. In collaboration with statistician and/or PI, contributes to calculation of non-standardized measures. Provides ongoing status reports. Once data collection and data cleaning are complete, provides access to finalized reports containing all variables and scoring. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: BASIC KNOWLEDGE: Minimum of bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/MIS or closely related field. Demonstrated knowledge of current computer technology and relational database management (RDBMS) systems. Experienced with the EHR (preferable Epic) systems. Demonstrated ability to apply programming skills to various software applications, such as SQL Server, Visual Basic, Access, SAS, SPSS, and REDCAP. Basic principles of project design. Thorough knowledge of electronic data acquisition software (e.g., REDCap), with experience in creating and maintaining emailed surveys, cross-sectional studies, longitudinal studies, randomization, branching logic, calculated fields, and user permissions management. Experience with computerized statistical analyses. Competent in database and spreadsheet software applications. Knowledge of statistical analysis. Strong organizational skills to gather project information, format appropriately to facilitate data entry and to prepare and maintain records and reports. Knowledge of and ability to operate microcomputer or minicomputer to enter, display, store and retrieve information and to perform computer-assisted statistical analyses. Analytical skills to assess completeness, quality and acceptability of data. Interpersonal skills to effectively interact with Hospital professionals, project support staff and trainees to gather and clarify project data. EXPERIENCE: Equivalent to three years of progressively responsible information systems management background in healthcare industry, including successful experience in programming, system analysis, data analysis and storage, documentation and management in a healthcare or academic environment. Experience in high level manipulation of complex and varied REDCap or similar databases, preferably in academic, medical, or pharmaceutical environment. Emphasis on human-subjects with experience assisting to prepare and comply with HIPAA guidelines. Experience with pediatric subjects or other vulnerable populations a plus. INDEPENDENT ACTION: Performs independently within the scope of the study. Generally, refers problems lacking clear precedent to Principal Investigator or Project Director. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: None.
