The Role:
We are seeking an experienced Technical Service Applications Engineer who has deep application expertise to support laminating, coating, and pouching customers across the Flexible Packaging value chain.
This role is hands-on, technical, and centered on ensuring products perform flawlessly in customer operations. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working onsite at customer locations.
The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with Sales, Business Development, and Marketing to determine the critical activities and actions needed to win with customers and grow targeted sub-segments.
This position will be intensely interesting to an individual who wants to be a part of a transformative and high-performing team tasked to drive significant market share growth.
This is a remote role, but you must live in CST. or EST. to be considered, and this role requires up to 50% travel.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead on‑press trials for solventless PU laminating adhesives, water‑based laminations, solvent‑based coatings, primers, and functional coatings.
- Trouble shoot production issues (COF, tunneling, delamination, haze, blocking, ink interactions, barrier performance).
- Conduct adhesive/coating testing on representative films, foils, papers, inks, and substrates.
- Build specimens, perform peel/bond testing, optical assessments, and aging studies and prepare written test reports.
- Use structured problem‑solving to identify root causes in converting environments.
- Collaborate with converter engineers, operators, and supplier tech teams.
- Provide training for operators, supervisors, and engineers on lamination/coating best practices.
- Conduct hands‑on adhesive/coating demonstrations.
- Document all trial outcomes, test results, recommendations.
- Communicate clearly with Sales, Product Management, and leadership.
- Stay current on laminating/coating technologies, film structures, ink systems, primers, regulatory requirements, and sustainability trends.
- Gaining thorough knowledge of APPLIED’s internal processes and functions of internal teams, IT applications, products, value-added services and industries served is key to success.
- Works closely with Sales to make sure the deal being developed is acceptable as it reaches fruition.
- Support and adhere to all safety procedures and complete all required safety training.
- Identify and support improvement opportunities for processes in order to support company objectives and customer expectations.

Experience and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials/Polymer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Packaging Engineering, or similar field required. MBA preferred.
- 4–7+ years of technical experience in laminating, coating, flexible packaging, adhesives/coatings, or converting operations required.
- Hands‑on experience troubleshooting converting equipment, with strong documentation and communication skills.
- Experience with regulatory/food‑contact compliance.
- Prior technical service or application engineering background.
- Familiarity with lab equipment (peel testers, ovens, viscometers).
- Must be a collaborative and strategic thinker, consultative and solution oriented quick learner and self-starter with a sense of urgency.
- Experience navigating complex multi-stakeholder opportunities, knowledge of application, coating equipment, and quality requirements.
- Highly organized with strong planning, facilitation, collaboration, and execution skills. Six-Sigma experience preferred.
- Ability to influence at all levels, with experience in a distributed, matrixed environment, influencing decision makers with data, building strong coaches to navigate mutually beneficial deals.
- Entrepreneurial acumen, effective communication and relationship management with the proven ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Strong presentation skills, and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient in MS Office suite and Windows O/S. Power BI and Salesforce.com CRM platform experience required.
