Technical Leader (Fullstack Backend focused)

We are looking for an experienced Technical Leader who is passionate about building scalable, reliable, and high-performing backend systems. In this role, you will drive the technical direction of our backend development, mentor a team of developers, and play a key part in shaping our product and technical vision.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of engineers, establishing best practices, coding standards, and a culture of continuous improvement.
• Collaborate closely with frontend teams, product managers, DevOps engineers, and other stakeholders to design and deliver scalable technical solutions.
• Architect, develop, and maintain reliable backend services and APIs using Node.js, TypeScript, and modern backend frameworks.
• Design scalable system architectures that support high availability, strong performance, security, and zero-downtime deployments.
• Drive technical decisions and take ownership of the backend roadmap, balancing speed, scalability, and long-term code quality.
• Ensure the reliability and maintainability of backend systems through effective testing, monitoring, logging, and incident management practices.
• Leverage AI tools and emerging technologies to increase team efficiency, improve developer experience, and enhance the end-user product.
• Participate in and lead discussions about new technologies, proactively identifying opportunities to innovate and evolve our technology stack.
• Act as a bridge between engineering and product, translating business requirements into robust and scalable backend solutions.

Skills & Qualifications

• 6+ years of experience in Backend Development, with at least 4 years in a lead role.
• Strong proficiency in TypeScript, Node.js, and backend frameworks such as NestJS or Express.js.
• Proven experience designing, building, and maintaining scalable APIs, services, and distributed systems.
• Strong knowledge of relational and non-relational databases, data modelling, and query optimisation.
• Experience working with cloud infrastructure, preferably AWS, and an understanding of containerisation, CI/CD, and infrastructure as code.
• Solid understanding of event-driven architecture, messaging systems, and asynchronous processing. Experience with technologies such as Apache Kafka is an advantage.
• Demonstrated experience with AI tools and workflows, you know how to integrate AI into the development process to move faster and work smarter.
• Experience leading or mentoring developers, conducting code reviews, and setting technical direction.
• Good understanding of frontend concepts to collaborate effectively with frontend developers.
• Strong knowledge of software security, testing strategies, observability, and performance optimisation.
