Create accurate 3D models, assemblies, and production drawings in SolidWorks while ensuring designs are buildable and cost-effective. Collaborate with cross-functional teams including design, production, and installation to resolve technical issues and maintain accurate project documentation.
The opportunity
BrookGlobal is looking for a hands-on Technical CAD Designer (subcontractor) who can take an approved creative concept and turn it into something our team can confidently price, build, purchase, assemble and install. This is not a drafting-only role. You will be expected to think through how the design actually works in the real world.
About BrookGlobal
BrookGlobal creates donor recognition and experiential environments for healthcare and nonprofit organizations. Our work brings together storytelling, physical design, custom-built elements and digital experiences. The Technical CAD Designer sits between creative design and execution, helping make sure the concept can be delivered accurately, efficiently and at the quality our clients expect.
This is a subcontractor engagement rather than a full-time employee role. Work may be assigned on a project-by-project basis or through an agreed limited number of hours per week, depending on BrookGlobal's active project workload and technical design needs. The scope, timing and expected hours will be agreed for each project or work period.
What You Will Own
Create accurate 3D models, assemblies, shop drawings and fabrication / production drawings in SolidWorks.
Translate approved experiential concepts, client requirements, site measurements and specifications into buildable technical packages. Develop and maintain BOMs / picklists, material callouts, hardware, mounting details, dimensions, tolerances and assembly information.
Design with constructability in mind: how the work will be fabricated, assembled, packed, shipped, installed, serviced and repeated.
Review technical inputs and identify missing dimensions, conflicts, unclear requirements or risks before drawings are released.
Work closely with Experiential Design, Pre-Construction, Project Management, Purchasing, Production, IT / AV and Installation.
Support technical R&D, prototypes, vendor questions and solution testing when a design or application is new or uncertain.
Maintain clear drawing revisions and one current approved source of truth. Make sure superseded drawings are not left in active use.
Support Production and field teams with technical questions and update drawings when an approved change needs to become part of the permanent record.
Support reorders, maintenance and repeat work by keeping technical files accurate, organized and reusable.
What Good Looks Like
Production can build from your drawings without having to guess what the designer meant.
Installation arrives on site with the right dimensions, details, mounting information and current drawing set.
Drawing errors, rework, missing hardware / material and avoidable field surprises are low and continue to decrease.
Technical questions are raised early instead of becoming last-minute problems.
SolidWorks models, drawings, BOMs and revisions are organized, accurate and easy for the wider team to use.
What We Are Looking For
3+ years of hands-on CAD / technical design experience in a fabrication, manufacturing, millwork, signage, exhibits, fixtures, architectural products or similar environment.
Strong working knowledge of SolidWorks, including parts, assemblies and production drawings.
Ability to create detailed drawings that clearly communicate dimensions, materials, hardware, interfaces, mounting and assembly intent.
Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings, site information and technical specifications.
Strong understanding of buildability and how design decisions affect cost, production, installation and quality.
High attention to detail and a habit of checking your own work before release.
Strong problem-solving skills and comfort working through incomplete or changing technical information.
Clear communication and the ability to work directly with designers, project teams, fabricators and installers.
Diploma or degree in mechanical design, engineering technology, industrial design, drafting / CAD or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
A portfolio or sample set of technical / production drawings that demonstrates how you turn design intent into buildable work.
Nice to Have
Experience with custom architectural / experiential elements, donor recognition, signage, exhibits, interiors or healthcare environments.
Experience with custom fabrication, millwork, metal, acrylic, mounting systems or integrated digital / LED components.
Experience with prototypes, design-for-manufacture, CNC / fabrication workflows or vendor technical coordination.
Experience supporting installation teams and resolving technical issues in the field.
Familiarity with document control, revision management or PDM-style workflows.
