What you’ll be doing:  

  • Lead end-to-end execution of R&D tax credit studies from scoping through delivery, including technical interviews, project workflow, and client communication.
  • Prepare and review technical analyses and supporting documentation to ensure compliance with IRS substantiation standards; support audit defense and controversy matters.
  • Support and expand cost segregation engagements, including site visit coordination, proposal development, scoping, and pricing.
  • Provide technical consulting across specialty areas including UNICAP calculations, accounting method changes, credit methodology design, and partnership and corporate advisory.
  • Serve as a firm-wide technical resource, responding to ad-hoc questions and developing internal guidance, templates, and best practices for the Tax Advisory practice.
  • Support retainer-based advisory relationships with CPA firm partners and key clients.
  • Train, mentor, and supervise staff; build internal depth in R&D, cost segregation, and specialty tax advisory services.
  • Develop and document standardized processes to improve efficiency and consistency across engagements.
  • Participate in business development initiatives including CPE presentations, networking events, and thought leadership.

Requirements 

  • Minimum 5 years of tax experience, with meaningful exposure to R&D tax credits and/or specialty tax advisory
  • CPA required
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting
  • Supervisory experience; comfortable leading junior staff on engagements
  • Strong technical knowledge in R&D tax credits and/or specialty tax advisory areas
  • Strong technical writing skills; ability to prepare documentation suitable for IRS review
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple engagements concurrently and meet deadlines
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively with clients, partners, and all levels of staff
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and able to effectively delegate and manage the flow of work
  • Prior experience at a public accounting firm or specialty tax boutique preferred
  • Hands-on experience with cost segregation studies preferred
  • Familiarity with IRS audit procedures and exam-level R&D credit defense preferred
  • Experience with partnership taxation, M&A tax, or accounting method changes preferred
  • US work authorization required
