Tax Associate
What You’ll Be Doing:
As a Tax Associate, you’ll be a vital part of our Tax Team, working in a collaborative environment with professionals at all levels. You will gain hands-on experience in preparing a wide range of individual and business tax returns while developing your technical tax knowledge and professional judgment.
- Prepare individual, business, and trust tax returns with minimal supervision.
- Perform basic research on tax issues and prepare clear, concise memos.
- Analyze client books and records; prepare adjusting journal entries.
- Develop understanding of key concepts including 1040 schedules, real estate and passive activity rules, IRAs, RMDs, and credits (including PTE credit).
- Understand owner basis for pass-through entities, capital account maintenance, depreciation rules, book-to-tax differences, and multistate filings.
- Apply safe harbor and estimated tax payment rules for Federal and California returns.
- Prepare amended income tax returns and assist with IRS audits as needed.
- Participate in year-end tax projections and planning engagements.
- Communicate with clients regarding requested information and clarification of issues.
- Enter time and expenses daily to support efficient billing processes.
- Contribute to business development by understanding firm services and building professional networks.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (required).
- CPA eligibility or intent to pursue licensure preferred.
- Prior tax experience within a public accounting firm is a plus.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Teams); experience with CCH Axcess Tax, Caseware, BNA Tax Planner, or QuickBooks preferred.
- Basic understanding of accounting principles and income tax law.
- Excellent attention to detail, analytical, and communication skills.
- Strong work ethic with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Team-oriented with a professional and positive demeanor.

Work Authorization:

Salary Range: $25.00 - $38.00 (Hourly Non - Exempt Status)
Please note that quoted salary ranges are not guarantees of what final salary offers may be. Base pay may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and geographic location. Base pay is only one part of the Total Rewards that LSL, LLP provides to compensate and recognize our professionals for their work. All exempt positions are eligible for a discretionary bonus and all employees who are regularly scheduled to work 30 hours or more per week are offered a comprehensive benefits package.
