Systems Engineer

BigBear.ai is seeking a Systems Engineer to join our IT Operations team and help design, automate, and manage our modern enterprise infrastructure. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving complex technical problems, improving operational efficiency through automation, and delivering an exceptional end-user experience across our Windows enterprise environment. 

The ideal candidate is a systems thinker with strong scripting skills, experience managing enterprise cloud and identity technologies, and a passion for continuously improving IT operations through automation and standardization. 

This is a fully remote position. Candidates located in the Washington, DC / Maryland / Virginia (DMV) area are preferred to allow for occasional onsite collaboration when needed. 

• Engineer, deploy, and manage enterprise systems and endpoint environments (Windows required; macOS a plus). 
• Develop automation solutions that reduce manual effort and improve operational efficiency. 
• Create and maintain scripts using PowerShell and Python to automate provisioning, administration, reporting, and integrations. 
• Support endpoint and device management tooling (e.g., Microsoft Intune or comparable platforms), including compliance policies, application deployment, and endpoint security. 
• Administer or support enterprise cloud and identity services (Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, or comparable platforms). 
• Maintain and optimize monitoring and management platforms (RMM, network monitoring, or infrastructure monitoring tools) to proactively manage system health. 
• Build and maintain documentation, operational runbooks, and standard operating procedures. 
• Partner with Security, Infrastructure, and Help Desk teams to improve reliability, compliance, and user experience. 
• Participate in infrastructure improvement projects and recommend new technologies and best practices.
• Troubleshoot complex systems, identity, network, and cloud platform issues. 

• 5+ years of experience as a Systems Engineer, Network Engineer, Systems Administrator, or similar infrastructure role. 
• Strong experience managing Windows enterprise environments; macOS experience a plus. 
• Networking Experience: Managing Routing, Switching, VLANs, Firewalls. 
• Advanced PowerShell scripting experience. 
• Working knowledge of, or hands-on academic experience with, Python for automation and systems integration. 
• Experience administering enterprise endpoint, identity, or cloud platforms (e.g., Microsoft Intune, Microsoft 365, Entra ID, or comparable enterprise systems). 
• Experience with lifecycle management of enterprise systems, including deployment, patching/upgrades, compliance, and configuration management. 
• Experience administering or supporting monitoring and management platforms (RMM, network monitoring, or infrastructure monitoring tools). 
• Working knowledge of identity management concepts (Microsoft Entra ID, Active Directory, or similar). 
• Experience documenting technical processes and operational procedures. 
• Excellent troubleshooting and communication skills. 
• Self-motivated with the ability to work independently in a remote-first environment. 

• Experience administering Linux servers or Linux endpoints. 
• Experience supporting U.S. Government or Government Contracting (GovCon) environments. 
• Familiarity with compliance frameworks such as NIST 800-171, CMMC, or FedRAMP. 
• Networking experience including routing, switching, VPNs, DNS, DHCP, and firewall concepts. 
• Experience with ServiceNow or other IT Service Management platforms. 
• Experience with infrastructure automation tools and APIs. 
• Experience working in Azure or other cloud infrastructure platforms.
