Description

The Sustaining Engineer, Electrical at Hyper Solutions is responsible for the ongoing electrical engineering ownership, support, and continuous improvement of the company's released product portfolio. This role focuses on maintaining the electrical reliability, manufacturability, quality, and performance of Hyper's power distribution equipment throughout the product lifecycle while supporting a rapidly growing manufacturing organization.


Working closely with Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, Customer Support, and Product Engineering, the Sustaining Engineer provides hands-on engineering support for production and field issues, executes engineering changes, and drives continuous improvements that enhance product quality, serviceability, and cost.


This position is well-suited for an electrical engineer who enjoys solving real-world manufacturing and product challenges, collaborating across functions, and improving products already in production.


Core Responsibilities

  • Provide hands-on electrical engineering support for released products throughout their lifecycle 
  • Execute Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) and Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) for electrical design, wiring, and control system updates 
  • Drive continuous improvements in product reliability, manufacturability, serviceability, and cost 
  • Update and maintain electrical bills of material (BOMs), schematics, wiring diagrams, and assembly documentation 
  • Support New Product Introduction (NPI) transitions into production from an electrical design-for-manufacturing perspective 
  • Resolve production issues involving wiring harnesses, control panels, terminations, electrical connectivity, and system integration 
  • Conduct schematic reviews, wiring diagram audits, and electrical fit reviews to prevent recurring assembly issues 
  • Support root cause investigations for electrical nonconformances, assembly defects, and field failures 
  • Evaluate component substitutions, supplier-driven design changes, and material obsolescence 

Additional Responsibilities

  • Partner with field service teams and customers to diagnose electrical issues involving wiring, controls, grounding, power quality, and system performance 
  • Support warranty investigations and electrical reliability improvement initiatives 
  • Ensure continued compliance with applicable UL standards, customer specifications, and internal quality requirements 
  • Support product certifications, audits, and regulatory compliance activities 
  • Apply structured problem-solving methodologies including 8D, A3, 5-Why, and Ishikawa analysis 
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across Engineering and Manufacturing

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical discipline 
  • 2+ years of electrical engineering experience within a manufacturing environment 
  • Experience supporting released products through sustaining, product, or manufacturing engineering 
  • Proficiency with electrical design and schematic capture tools such as AutoCAD Electrical, SolidWorks Electrical, EPLAN, or similar software 
  • Experience creating electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and engineering documentation 
  • Working knowledge of electrical schematics, control panel design, wiring practices, and NEC/NFPA 70 requirements 
  • Understanding of engineering change management (ECRs, ECOs) and document control 
  • Experience conducting root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions 
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams 
  • Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting power distribution equipment, electrical enclosures, switchboards, PDUs, RPPs, or switchgear 
  • Familiarity with control panel wiring, harness fabrication, and electrical assembly processes 
  • Knowledge of UL 891, UL 508A, or similar electrical product standards 
  • Experience supporting products within data center, mission-critical infrastructure, or industrial electrical industries 
  • Experience with ERP and PLM systems such as NetSuite, Arena, or similar platforms 
  • Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement training or certifications 
  • Familiarity with mechanical drawings

Location

Onsite in Richmond, VA, or remote, depending on candidate location and business needs.


Compensation

The anticipated hiring range for this role is $80,000–$110,000 per year. Actual salary may vary based on factors including experience, skills, certifications, and location. This hire will be eligible for discretionary bonus or incentive compensation. Variable compensation may depend on factors such as individual and organizational performance.
