Horace Mann is seeking a knowledgeable and collaborative Supervisor, Product Compliance to provide day-to-day leadership and technical guidance for our Product Compliance team supporting Supplemental and Group insurance products.

In this role, you'll balance people leadership with hands-on compliance expertise—overseeing workflow and quality, coordinating regulatory filings, researching evolving requirements, and partnering across the organization to help ensure our products and related materials remain compliant.

The ideal candidate is an organized and thoughtful leader who enjoys developing others, solving regulatory challenges, and building strong partnerships across Product Development, Legal, Compliance, Claims, Marketing, and Operations.

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership & Development

  • Supervise the daily workflow and activities of assigned Product Compliance team members.
  • Assign and prioritize work, monitor deadlines, and ensure established service and performance expectations are achieved.
  • Train, coach, and develop team members to strengthen technical knowledge, regulatory expertise, and overall performance.
  • Monitor workload, productivity, quality, and technical proficiency across the team.
  • Identify opportunities to improve training, processes, resources, and controls and provide recommendations to management.

Product Compliance & Quality Oversight

  • Review product compliance work for accuracy, completeness, consistency, and adherence to established procedures and quality standards.
  • Serve as the first level of technical escalation for routine and moderately complex product compliance matters.
  • Research, interpret, and apply statutes, regulations, bulletins, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Support compliance reviews of:
    • Policy forms and certificates
    • Endorsements
    • Disclosures
    • Marketing materials
    • Other product-related documentation
  • Exercise sound judgment in resolving compliance matters and escalate significant or complex issues to management as appropriate.

Regulatory Filings & DOI Coordination

  • Coordinate product filing activities from preparation through regulatory approval.
  • Oversee the preparation and submission of filings to applicable regulatory authorities.
  • Monitor regulatory correspondence, objections, approvals, and outstanding requirements.
  • Ensure regulatory documentation is complete, accurate, and appropriately maintained.
  • Coordinate timely follow-up on outstanding filing requirements and regulatory inquiries.
  • Support responses to Department of Insurance (DOI) inquiries and requests. 

New Products & Regulatory Change

  • Support compliance activities associated with new product development and product changes.
  • Monitor and support implementation of new or revised regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain and support applicable compliance calendars and regulatory deadlines.
  • Partner with business areas to implement updated procedures, requirements, and controls resulting from regulatory or product changes.

Cross-Functional Partnership

  • Collaborate with Product Development, Claims, Enterprise Compliance, Legal, Marketing, Operations, and other business partners to complete product compliance initiatives.
  • Provide clear compliance guidance to business partners and help translate regulatory requirements into actionable business practices.
  • Build effective relationships across the organization to support timely product development, implementation, and ongoing compliance.

Qualifications & Experience

Required

  • Experience in product compliance, regulatory compliance, product filings, product development, or a related insurance discipline.
  • Working knowledge of insurance regulations, regulatory research, product documentation, and Department of Insurance filing processes.
  • Knowledge of Supplemental and Group insurance products or related insurance products.
  • Prior supervisory, team-lead, coaching, or comparable leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate workloads, monitor quality and deadlines, and provide technical guidance to team members.
  • Ability to research, interpret, and apply regulatory requirements and identify appropriate solutions to routine compliance matters.
  • Sound judgment with the ability to recognize when complex or significant matters require escalation.

Preferred

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant professional experience.
  • Previous experience coordinating insurance product filings and responding to regulatory inquiries.
  • Experience supporting new product development or significant product changes.

Pay Range:

  • $76,600.00 - $106,450.00 annually + bonus. 

Salary is commensurate to experience, location, etc.
