What makes this role exciting

CloudPay is seeking a skilled and people-focused German Payroll Supervisor to join our growing team. In this role, you will lead a team of approximately six payroll professionals responsible for processing German payrolls through CloudPay’s platform and local third-party systems.

Your focus will include monitoring team performance, conducting payroll reviews, handling escalations, and ensuring continuous development of both team members and payroll processes.
In addition to supervisory duties, you will manage at least one German payroll yourself and support the team during peak activity or staff absence. You will work closely with the German Payroll Manager, other supervisors, and SMEs to drive consistency, service excellence, and compliance in all payroll operations.

Main responsibilities

  • Supervise and support a German payroll team, including holding regular 1:1 meetings and performance conversations

  • Conduct Continuous Performance Discussions (CPD) and quarterly objective setting with team members

  • Act as an escalation point for client issues related to German payrolls and ensure timely resolution

  • Oversee payroll accuracy by conducting performance reviews and identifying areas for process improvement

  • Monitor and address team and individual training needs, supporting ongoing skill development

  • Manage end-to-end German payroll processing in line with CloudPay's governance and service standards

  • Ensure adherence to payroll calendar deadlines, SLAs, and accuracy expectations

  • Collaborate with other German Payroll Supervisors and SMEs to ensure cohesive service delivery

  • Work in partnership with the German Payroll Manager to maintain and enhance payroll operations

  • Recommend and implement process improvements to boost team efficiency and quality

  • Assist with onboarding and training of new team members, providing structured support

  • Investigate discrepancies in payroll data and ensure procedures are followed before processing

  • Complete cross-checks and validation to ensure payroll results meet compliance standards

  • Maintain accurate records and documentation to support audits and internal controls

  • Ensure timely and accurate delivery of payroll, including salary payments aligned to client SLAs

  • Prepare and submit statutory declarations to authorities as required

  • Create regular and ad hoc payroll reports, and respond to special client requests with care and accuracy

Experience needed for this role

  • Experience supervising or mentoring team members within a payroll or operational function

  • Fluent in English and German

  • Proficiency in German end-to-end payroll processing, including local statutory requirements

  • Highly organized with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage periods of increased activity

  • Confident using MS Office tools, particularly Excel, as well as email and internet-based applications

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy and compliance

  • Ability to contribute to strategic discussions and provide insights to leadership

  • Comfortable working across departments and regions to drive process improvements

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a customer-focused and collaborative mindset

  • Confident decision-making and problem-solving abilities in a fast-paced environment
