The Study Site Engagement Lead manages a portfolio of clinical research site relationships to optimize trial performance and accelerate clinical development. They act as a strategic point of contact, driving engagement strategies and fostering collaboration between internal teams and external investigational sites.
The role is an internal/external customer facing position, responsible for managing a portfolio of clinical research site relationships. It identifies & manages CDO partners for Boehringer's clinical trial pipeline, in collaboration with other Medicine functions, to achieve CDO objectives. The role is to actively engage with investigational sites in all stages of clinical trial development activities from protocol development through to study completion, and across multiple programs, thus contributing to accelerated and more efficient clinical development of Boehringer assets through improved site performance. The position provides planning, oversight, and strategic direction to achieve Boehringer’s objectives for its Clinical Development Operations (CDO) site engagement strategy.

Identify and maintain operational relationships with research investigators & sites in alignment with Medicine strategic needs:
- Identify clinical trial investigators, sites, & relationships to bring to trial teams to fulfill pipeline needs (e.g., access to a certain patient population)
- Establish and maintain strategic partnerships with clinical sites, research networks, and site management organizations.
- Develop and implement partnership models and frameworks to enhance collaboration and streamline operations.
- Create and execute site engagement strategies that align with current and upcoming clinical development programs.
Drive and oversee the engagement strategy with clinical research sites:
- Plan country-level site engagement strategies for Boehringer’s current and upcoming clinical development programs.
- Collaborate with site staff, e.g., clinical, legal, contract, and finance departments, to optimize site performance improve study collaboration metrics, such as reducing the number of inactive sites accelerating the time from protocol to first patient in (FPI), DEI targets, etc.
- Support resolution of escalated issues impacting clinical development programs: e.g., site start-up, study execution, and relationship management.
- Routinely evaluate and report on institutional/investigator performance across various clinical trials.
- Monitor and ensure adherence to partnership agreements, identifying and addressing any challenges to drive success.
Foster strong collaboration with internal stakeholders to define/achieve alliance objectives:
- Work closely with internal stakeholders such as CDO, clinical development & medical affairs (CDMA), and others to support clinical trial delivery
- Partners with Medicine functions to ensure alignment of CDO strategies & enhance the reputation of the role.
- Facilitate communication and coordination between clinical sites and internal teams.
- Act as operational single point of contact for relevant Boehringer interfaces for inhouse and hybrid model clinical trials
Constantly works towards meeting company objective, driving process improvement, and enhancing Boehringer’s reputation with external-facing teams.
- Supports the development and optimization of processes for clinical trials and across Medicine
- Participates in or leads process improvement or special projects
- Participate in external communications that support the Boehringer’s clinical trials (e.g., conference presentations, posters, publications, etc).
Ensures Compliance
- Maintains compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies.
- Adheres to all relevant department SOPs and regulatory policies
- Executes department required tasks within required timelines and in accordance with requirements
Eligibility Requirements:
This position offers a base salary typically between $165,600 and $248,400. The position may be eligible for a role specific discretionary bonus, relocation, and/or other compensation elements. We continuously review market data and may adjust salary ranges as needed in the future.
