Staff Product Designer

Job Summary

We're looking for a Staff Product Designer to take on Koru's most ambiguous, highest-leverage design problems, the ones that span multiple client accounts, cross multiple teams, or don't have a defined brief yet. You'll set the standard for design quality and AI-informed practice across the accounts you touch, and operate effectively in ambiguous, fast-moving environments where creating structure is part of the job, not something handed to you.

We're also looking for genuine fluency with AI in product design and not just familiarity with AI tools, but real judgement about when AI actually helps a user and when it quietly doesn't, backed by a track record of shipping AI-powered features responsibly, and comfort using AI tools as part of your own workflow, not just designing AI for others.

Key Responsibilities

Owning ambiguous, high-leverage work

• Lead and ship large, cross-team or cross-account projects independently, often without a fully defined brief, adjusting scope as it changes rather than waiting for someone to hand you clarity.
• Diagnose problems nobody has framed yet, spotting opportunities before they're assigned, not just executing what's already on the roadmap.
• Set the quality bar and visual direction for an account or product line without personally executing every piece of it.
• Apply deliberate leverage: know when a task is worth doing yourself versus building something, a pattern, a template, documentation, that helps everyone doing similar work after you.
• Own design decisions across multiple surface areas or product lines at once where needed, not just a single feature in isolation.

Shaping how Koru designs with AI

• Set AI UX standards for a client or product line, and build or maintain the pattern library and evaluation checklists other designers use.
• Treat AI as a multiplier for your own design process, not a shortcut around it: use AI tools to speed up exploration and prototyping without letting them substitute for your own judgement.
• Actively evolve Koru's own AI design practice as the field moves

Influence without authority

• Build followership across teams through consistently clear thinking, not seniority or volume.
• Mentor designers across projects, not just your own team, and act as a sponsor as well as a mentor, advocating for people in rooms they're not in, not just guiding them one to one.
• Get Koru treated as a strategic partner through the calibre of your thinking as much as your output.

Contributing beyond the project

• Lead initiatives that expand Koru's visibility or offerings
• Extend and improve Koru's own internal design frameworks and processes, not just follow them.

Requirements

Experience

• 8+ years of experience in product or UX design, the majority of it operating at a senior level or beyond.
• A portfolio that shows genuine breadth of scope, not just polished screens, but measurable business outcomes and evidence of leading ambiguous, cross-functional work end to end. Strong enough to stand on its own without a verbal walkthrough.
• Experience with B2B products and enterprise applications; HealthTech experience is a strong plus.
• Real, hands-on experience designing AI-powered features or AI-native product ideas, not just using AI tools day to day. We'll ask you to speak to this specifically, ideally with a portfolio piece that shows it.
• Comfortable prototyping in code, or close enough to front-end development to validate ideas without waiting on engineering.

• Craft & judgement - deep design skill combined with the judgement to know when to apply it personally and when to build something that scales it to others.
• AI fluency - genuine, applied understanding of AI capability and limitation in product design, not just enthusiasm for the space.
• Influence without authority - a proven ability to set direction and raise the bar for people who don't report to you.
• Business acumen - comfortable operating as a strategic partner to client leadership, not just a design resource.
• Communication - able to make a case clearly enough that people who don't already agree with you can be moved.
