Staff Accountant

XStar Aviation is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Staff Accountant to support our growing aerospace operations. The ideal candidate will bring a strong foundation in accounting principles, proficiency in Government Contract Accounting, and hands-on experience with Deltek Costpoint. This role provides critical support to the Manager Government Account/Controller in maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring compliance with government regulations, and supporting month-end and year-end close processes

Key Responsibilities

• Perform daily accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger entries, and bank reconciliations.
• Support month-end and year-end close activities, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting
• Prepare and reconcile balance sheet accounts and support financial statement preparation.
• Assist the Manager Government Accounting/Controller with internal and external audit processes.
• Maintain compliance with FAR, DFARS, and other government accounting standards.
• Generate financial reports and analysis to support operational and executive decision-making.
• Enter, review, and reconcile transactions in DELTEK Costpoint, ensuring accuracy and adherence to contract requirements.
• Support budgeting, forecasting, and cost analysis activities.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including contracts, operations, and procurement, to ensure proper financial controls and accounting treatment.
• Assist in process improvement initiatives to streamline accounting workflows and strengthen internal controls.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelors Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• Minimum 5 years of professional accounting experience.
• Solid understanding of GAAP and government contract accounting principles and practices.
• Strong proficiency with DELTEK Costpoint or related ERP.
• Experience supporting a Controller or similar senior finance role.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other financial analysis tools.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in aviation, aerospace, or defense contracting.
• Experience with DCAA financial audits and compliance reviews.
• Working knowledge of CAS/FAR Part31/DFARS compliance

Travel Required

• Minimal Travel - approximately 10% - travel may be required for training or company site visits

Work Authorization and Clearance

• U.S. Citizen Required
• Candidates must currently hold an active Secret clearance, or be able to obtain and maintain one.
