This Opportunity

We are looking to grow our Earth & Environment team with a highly motivated Sr. Project Manager / Environmental Remediation Engineer or Scientist to support complex environmental remediation and restoration projects across our Upper Midwest Operations (Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, South Dakota, and North Dakota).

This position offers the opportunity to work on challenging contaminated sediment, groundwater, and environmental remediation projects for industrial, commercial, and government clients throughout the United States. The selected candidate will join a collaborative, multidisciplinary team based in Madison or Milwaukee, Wisconsin, with remote work arrangements considered for highly qualified candidates.

As a Senior Project Manager, you will provide both technical and project leadership for environmental remediation projects from planning through implementation. You will play a key role in developing client relationships, leading pursuit strategies, managing project delivery, mentoring staff, and advancing WSP's environmental practice throughout the Midwest region.

You will collaborate with engineers, hydrogeologists, environmental scientists, ecologists, water resources specialists, and regulatory professionals to deliver sustainable, innovative solutions that help clients address complex environmental challenges.

Your Impact

Project & Technical Leadership

  • Lead the planning, design, and execution of environmental investigation, remediation, and restoration projects.
  • Serve as a technical leader for contaminated sediment, groundwater, surface water, and environmental remediation projects.
  • Direct site characterization programs, remedial investigations, feasibility studies, remedial designs, and implementation activities.
  • Develop and execute strategic project delivery plans, staffing approaches, and teaming strategies that support successful project outcomes.
  • Coordinate with WSP Practice Area Networks and client sector leaders to ensure consistent delivery of responsive, high-quality services.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
  • Oversee project-specific Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) programs and health and safety requirements.

 

 Management & Client Development

  • Manage projects throughout the entire lifecycle, including scope, schedule, budget, quality, and risk management.
  • Lead client engagement efforts and develop trusted relationships with key industrial, commercial, and government clients.
  • Prepare and lead proposals, qualifications packages, interviews, and pursuit strategies for new business opportunities.
  • Develop detailed work scopes, cost estimates, and task-level budgets.
  • Monitor project financial performance, forecasts, and resource utilization.
  • Successfully manage multiple concurrent projects while maintaining high levels of client satisfaction.

 

Team Leadership & Mentoring

  • Mentor and develop early-career and mid-level engineers, geologists, and environmental scientists.
  • Support staff growth through technical guidance, project coaching, and career development.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, safety, innovation, and technical excellence.
  • Contribute to the continued growth and success of WSP's environmental practice across the Midwest region.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Geology, Hydrogeology, Environmental Science, or a related discipline.
  • 7+ years of environmental remediation experience, including at least 4 years of project management experience.
  • Demonstrated experience managing environmental assessment, remediation, and restoration projects.
  • Advanced knowledge of site investigations and remediation involving contaminated sediment, groundwater, surface water, and/or soil.
  • Proven ability to manage budgets, schedules, contracts, and multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Strong technical writing, presentation, and communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and time management abilities.
  • Demonstrated commitment to workplace safety and quality.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Ability to travel as required for project and client needs.
  • Must successfully complete and pass WSP's pre-employment screening requirements, including drug screening, physical examination (when applicable), background check, and motor vehicle record review.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Engineering, Geology, Hydrogeology, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) or Professional Geologist (PG) license.
  • Recognized technical expertise and ability to serve as a Subject Matter Expert within one or more WSP Practice Area Networks.
  • Experience with the design and construction of sediment remediation and/or water resources restoration projects.
  • Experience developing, leading, or interpreting environmental and hydrogeologic models, including large datasets and 3D site characterization models.
  • Working knowledge of USEPA and state environmental regulatory programs, permitting requirements, and remediation frameworks.
  • Proven experience leading interdisciplinary teams consisting of environmental, geotechnical, ecological, water resources, and regulatory professionals.
  • Experience providing construction oversight and managing contractor relationships throughout the Midwest region.
  • Established relationships with industrial, commercial, and government sector clients.
