Weyerhaeuser is hiring a Senior New Product Portfolio Strategist to help drive new product development from concept to market launch, using customer, market, and industry insights—including AI tools—to guide decisions. The individual contributor role connects market intelligence, customer insight, forensic data analysis, financial analysis, manufacturing realities, and go-to-market decisions across residential, commercial, and industrial market segments. The work is decision-oriented: identifying and recommending where to invest, where to test, where to scale, and where to stop, based on evidence that stands up to scrutiny.
We need someone with a growth mindset who challenges the status quo. They must be able to identify meaningful signals early, pressure-test assumptions, and translate insight into practical portfolio choices that focus on KPI-driven financial outcomes, including growth, margin expansion, and return on investment.
The right candidate combines curiosity with discipline. They are enthusiastic, ask good questions, ground recommendations in evidence and financial tradeoffs, and work effectively across functions without relying on formal authority. They also bring AI-native capabilities, using approved AI and automation tools to accelerate research, synthesize information, and improve analytical throughput while applying sound judgment, validation, and guardrails.
This role sits within New Product Development and reports to the Director of New Product Development in the Wood Products business.
Key Responsibilities:
Product portfolio intelligence and strategy: Develop and maintain a clear view of market opportunities, customer needs, competitive dynamics, and portfolio gaps across wood based building products. Turn that intelligence into recommendations that inform product roadmaps, positioning, and investment decisions across all stages of the product value stream.
Financial and commercial analysis: Build forecasts, margin models, pricing scenarios, ROI cases, and portfolio tradeoff analyses. Help leaders understand and act upon uncertainty, risks, and upside - not just provide point estimates.
Market research analysis: Conduct primary and secondary research, including industry trend assessments/reports, customer discovery, channel feedback, market sizing, segmentation, and competitive analysis. Identify opportunities to link research outputs to the decisions they are meant to inform.
Trend and competitive synthesis: Track and interpret changes in global construction methods, codes and standards, sustainability drivers, customer preferences, and competitor offerings. Translate those shifts into implications for current and future portfolio choices.
Commercialization decision support: Support new product development and launch decisions by starting from voice-of-customer feedback through unchartered value propositions, target segments, channel implications, and adoption risks.
Cross functional leadership: Partner with sales, engineering, manufacturing, finance, and customer facing teams to surface insights, test assumptions, and align solutions.
Change management: Build & implement structured change management practices to help teams understand decisions, adopt new portfolio tools and processes, and apply insights consistently.
