WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
We're building engineering teams for an AI-augmented world, and our operating model is designed for speed, flexibility, and scale. Rather than organizing around permanent project teams, we maintain lean, stable coverage teams and assemble focused project teams to accelerate strategic initiatives and business outcomes.
As a Senior Engineering Manager, you own a coverage team: the people, their growth, the health of the systems they support, and the operational stability that enables rapid execution across multiple concurrent workstreams. You are responsible for building a high-performing organization through strong coaching, resource planning, accountability, and continuous improvement while leveraging AI and modern engineering tools to improve team productivity, decision-making, and delivery effectiveness.
This role requires a strategic, data-driven leader who can operate independently, solve complex problems, adapt to evolving business priorities, and collaborate effectively across Engineering, Product, and cross-functional teams. Success is measured not only by delivery outcomes, but by your ability to develop talent, scale operational excellence, and create an environment where teams consistently deliver measurable impact.
YOUR DAY TO DAY
Own a stable coverage team responsible for a defined engineering domain, including system health, incident response, and incremental improvements
Manage staffing strategy for your team: hiring, retention, skills development, and allocation decisions when engineers move onto short-lived project teams
Serve as subject matter expert across initiatives in your domain; the person the Director pulls in when a project team needs a technical gut-check or a stakeholder needs a credible voice
Lead people development through 1:1s, performance management, career growth conversations, and coaching
Champion AI tooling adoption across your team; we don't approve headcount for teams that haven't demonstrated AI leverage
Deliver weekly throughput reporting and signal-dense status updates that allow leadership to move fast without needing to ask
Partner closely with Product, Architecture, Security, and DevOps to deliver against business priorities
Identify and remove blockers, improve processes, and maintain a culture of accountability and execution
WHAT YOU BRING TO TEALIUM
8+ years of software engineering experience, with 3+ years in an engineering management or people leadership role
Demonstrated ability to develop engineers; measurable through promotions, expanded scope, and increased ownership on your teams
Comfort operating without direct control of project execution; you influence through people and expertise, not task ownership
Familiarity with AI-powered development tools and a track record of building teams that use them
Strong cross-functional communication skills; you'll regularly navigate competing priorities across product, design, and peer engineering teams
Experience with modern frontend or backend stacks, cloud infrastructure, and scalable system design
Data-driven approach to operational decisions; you use engineering metrics, not intuition, to identify where to focus
