Sr. Manager, Medical & Scientific Affairs, Infection Prevention Group
Role Purpose
Serve as the enterprise clinical and scientific authority for sterilization, reprocessing, disinfection, infection prevention, and related healthcare practices across IPG. The role advances clinical evidence, professional society engagement, standards participation, and external scientific credibility while serving as a strategic advisor to the CMO and operating companies.
Reporting to the Chief Medical Officer, this role serves as a scientific, clinical, and regulatory subject matter expert supporting the Infection Prevention Group's portfolio of infection prevention, sterilization, disinfection, and reusable medical device reprocessing technologies.
The role provides leadership through clinical evidence generation, scientific engagement, standards participation, healthcare stakeholder collaboration, and thought leadership activities that advance the organization's credibility, innovation agenda, and customer impact. The position works closely with Regulatory Affairs, Quality, R&D, Product Management, and Commercial teams to translate evolving clinical practice, scientific evidence, and regulatory expectations into business value and customer outcomes.
Scientific & Clinical Leadership
- Serve as a subject matter expert in sterilization, disinfection, infection prevention, and reusable medical device reprocessing.
- Provide scientific and clinical guidance to cross-functional teams supporting product development, commercialization, and lifecycle management.
- Monitor emerging scientific literature, clinical practice trends, standards, and regulatory developments relevant to infection prevention technologies.
Clinical Evidence Strategy
- Develop and support clinical evidence generation strategies that strengthen product adoption, clinical utility, and customer confidence.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to design, execute, and interpret clinical studies, observational research, and evidence-development initiatives.
- Contribute to publication planning and dissemination of scientific evidence.
External Scientific Engagement
- Build and maintain relationships with key opinion leaders, academic institutions, professional societies, and healthcare systems.
- Represent the organization at scientific, clinical, and industry meetings through presentations, panels, workshops, and educational programs.
- Act as a scientific resource for customers, partners, and external stakeholders.
Standards & Regulatory Influence
- Participate in industry standards organizations and professional working groups.
- Provide insight on emerging standards, guidelines, and regulatory expectations that may impact business strategy and product development.
- Support cross-functional teams in understanding the clinical and operational implications of evolving healthcare regulations and standards.
Strategic Business Partnership
- Partner with Product Management, Regulatory Affairs, Quality, R&D, and Commercial leaders to identify opportunities that improve customer outcomes and strengthen market position.
- Provide customer workflow, infection prevention, and healthcare operations perspectives to support innovation and adoption strategies.
- Contribute to strategic initiatives that enhance the organization's reputation as a trusted scientific and clinical leader.
- Advanced degree in healthcare, clinical sciences, public health, microbiology, epidemiology, nursing, infection prevention, healthcare administration, or related discipline.
- Significant experience in infection prevention, sterilization, disinfection, reusable medical device reprocessing, healthcare epidemiology, clinical affairs, regulatory science, or related healthcare fields.
- Demonstrated experience translating complex clinical, scientific, or regulatory information into actionable business recommendations.
- Experience working with cross-functional teams in healthcare, medical device, life sciences, or related industries.
- Strong communication, presentation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Ability to influence without direct authority and operate effectively in a matrix environment.
- Experience with FDA regulatory pathways, including 510(k), De Novo, and Q-Submission processes.
- Experience participating in healthcare standards development activities (e.g., AAMI or similar organizations).
- Infection prevention certification or equivalent professional credentials.
- Experience designing or supporting clinical research, evidence generation, or publication strategies.
- Experience in sterile processing, endoscope reprocessing, healthcare operations, or infection prevention leadership roles.
- Established relationships within infection prevention, sterile processing, perioperative, or healthcare quality communities.
