Sr. Database Administrator

As a Sr. Database Administrator, you will be responsible for the design, administration, performance, reliability, and operational support of enterprise SQL Server database platforms supporting critical business applications. This role requires strong expertise in SQL Server across on-premises and AWS environments, with a focus on performance tuning, high availability, automation, operational stability, and production support.

You will work closely with application teams, SRE, Cloud Operations, and other stakeholders to understand database requirements, troubleshoot complex issues, recommend solutions, and continuously improve database reliability and operational efficiency. You will participate throughout the technology lifecycle, from project planning and implementation through production readiness and ongoing operational support.

 

Core Requirements and Responsibilities

·       Strong experience with SQL Server administration in on-premises and AWS environments, including SQL Server on EC2 and Amazon RDS.

·       Advanced T-SQL scripting, troubleshooting, and database administration skills.

·       Strong experience with SQL Server performance tuning and query optimization, including execution plan analysis, wait statistics, indexing, statistics, and workload analysis.

·       Proactively identify and remediate regressed queries, long-running and resource-intensive queries, inefficient execution plans, CPU/IO bottlenecks, blocking, deadlocks, and other performance issues.

·       Strong knowledge of SQL Server Always On Availability Groups, Failover Clustering, Transactional Replication, and Log Shipping.

·       Experience designing, implementing, and supporting High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) solutions.

·       Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues involving database integrity, performance, availability, migrations, replication, connectivity, security, backup/recovery, and database operations.

·       Perform SQL Server installation, configuration, upgrades, patching, migrations, maintenance, and performance optimization.

·       Develop and enhance database automation for provisioning, monitoring, backup/recovery, maintenance, access management, and other repetitive operational activities.

·       Strong experience with PowerShell scripting for database administration and automation.

·       Understand application and business requirements and recommend database solutions that meet performance, scalability, availability, security, and supportability requirements.

·       Provide technical guidance and recommendations on database standards, performance, architecture, and best operational practices.

·       Work effectively as an individual contributor while collaborating with application teams, SRE, Cloud Operations, vendors, consultants, and other technology teams.

·       Participate in an on-call rotation supporting 24x7 database services.

·       Familiarity with tools and platforms such as GitLab and ServiceNow.

·       Experience supporting multi-tenant database environments is a plus.

·       Strong analytical, problem-solving, troubleshooting, written, and verbal communication skills.

·       Ability to manage multiple priorities, adapt to changing requirements, and quickly learn new database and cloud technologies.
