Role Summary

The Social Studies Content Developer will support the development and implementation of K–12 Social Studies curriculum aligned to Pearson Virtual Schools instructional models. While contributing across the K–12 Social Studies portfolio as needed, this role will primarily focus on the development of engaging, standards-aligned digital learning experiences for early elementary students in grades K–2. The position is responsible for translating and adapting instructional materials into high-quality curriculum that supports learner engagement, academic achievement, and state standards alignment.

The Content Developer will lead course mapping, lesson design, and content refinement, while collaborating with internal teams and external partners to ensure instructional quality, alignment, and consistency across courses.

This is a 12-month limited-term employment (LTE) position.

Responsibilities:

Course Mapping & Standards Alignment

  • Develop detailed course maps that translate scope and sequence documentation into PVS instructional architecture 

  • Deconstruct state and national standards into lesson-level learning objectives that reflect appropriate cognitive demand for K–2 learners

  • Identify gaps between source materials and required standards; propose and document gap-filling strategies

  • Determine appropriate distribution of standards across lessons, ensuring balanced coverage without overloading or omission

Instructional Design & Learning Object Development

  • Design and develop lesson-level content, including learning objects, instructional sequences, and student-facing activities

  • Write clear, student-facing instructional content that is age-appropriate, engaging, and accessible for early learners

  • Apply multimodal design principles (e.g., visuals, audio, interactivity) to support emerging readers and diverse learners

  • Ensure alignment between learning objectives, instructional content, and assessment opportunities within each lesson

  • Develop and review formative and summative assessments aligned to lesson objectives

  • Ensure assessments accurately measure intended knowledge and skills without introducing unnecessary barriers (e.g., excessive reading complexity)

  • Design student activities that promote engagement, inquiry, and application of social studies concepts

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Curriculum & Instruction, Social Studies, or related field

  • 2+ years of K–2 classroom teaching experience strongly preferred

  • 3+ years of curriculum development experience, preferably in digital or virtual learning environments

  • Demonstrated experience developing standards-aligned social studies curriculum

  • Strong understanding of early elementary social studies concepts (civics, community, geography, introductory history)

  • Ability to break down standards into precise, lesson-level objectives

  • Strong attention to detail in content accuracy, alignment, and instructional coherence

  • Ability to identify quality issues and provide clear, actionable feedback

  • Strong written communication skills, particularly for student-facing content

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment

  • Comfort working independently and collaboratively within cross-functional teams

  • Familiarity with accessibility standards (WCAG) and inclusive design principles

 

Compensation at Pearson is influenced by factors including skill set, experience, and location,

 
The hourly rate for this role is $60,000 – $68,000.
