Project Brief

We're building a HIPAA-compliant platform on AWS for a healthcare client, integrating with a clearinghouse via EDI (270/271) and an existing EHR system, plus a new operations dashboard for staff. The project is moving from architecture into active build, with a small senior team executing over roughly 10 weeks. We're looking for the technical lead who will own the solution end-to-end and make sure the two engineers on the team ship against a clear, well-documented plan.

Must-Haves

• Senior software architecture experience combined with hands-on delivery leadership on a real production build
• Hands-on, production experience with HIPAA-grade AWS: VPC, IAM, KMS, ECS/Fargate, SQS, Secrets Manager, CloudWatch, CI/CD
• Track record decomposing complex work into tickets/specs and leading 2–3 engineers to ship
• Genuinely hands-on — this is not a pure-oversight role
• Experience handling PHI / healthcare data
• Comfortable being client-facing: partnering with the delivery manager and interfacing directly with client-side technical stakeholders

Nice to Have

• Healthcare EDI / X12 experience (ANSI 270/271, 837/835) and clearinghouse integrations (e.g. eTactics, Availity)
• Behavioral-health or revenue-cycle domain exposure
• Playwright / browser-automation familiarity
• Prior experience as a fractional consulting delivery lead

What You Will Do

• Own the technical solution end-to-end: translate the product requirements into architecture, tickets, and acceptance criteria
• Design the HIPAA-AWS foundation and the EDI 270/271 integration approach, and personally take on the hardest technical pieces
• Sequence the build across phases (infrastructure foundation → coverage monitoring → intake & consent flows)
• Run code review and unblock the engineering team on foundational and infrastructure work
• Write the technical documentation the team builds against, using tools like Notion/Google Docs and a ticketing system (Linear/Jira/ClickUp)
• Interface directly with client-side technical stakeholders, flagging scope and risk early
• Mentor and support two engineers through calm, hands-on delivery ownership
