Role or Purpose of Position 

 The Social Media Manager is responsible for driving Vitamin Angels’ growth through consistent, engaging, and impactful social media initiatives. This role is primarily responsible for leading the strategic vision, planning, execution, analytics, and optimization across Vitamin Angels’ social platforms with the goals of building brand awareness, strengthening partnerships, and driving revenue. In addition to organic social, the Social Media Manager will apply their knowledge of digital engagement to other areas of marketing and communications to support activities such as boosted and paid placements and email marketing for a similar global health nonprofit. The Social Media Manager will be responsible for developing a compelling social media strategy, social media plan, and editorial calendar, and executing end-to-end social and email campaigns, including creative ideation, copywriting, creative briefs, and creative asset requests. The Social Media Manager will work cross-functionally (with content creators, designers, PR team, digital marketing team, and others), with contractors (graphic designers, photographers, and videographers), and with key stakeholders from across the organization (Development, Programs, and C-suite) to deliver an integrated social strategy and editorial calendar designed to drive impressions, engagement, and above-benchmark-performance, customized to the demands of each platform.

The Social Media Manager will drive performance across existing channels (LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter/X, YouTube, email) while monitoring the landscape, continually evolving strategies for emerging platforms (TikTok, Bluesky, WhatsApp, Reddit, etc.). 

This role requires a collaborative leader with a passion for authentic storytelling who is eager to elevate our social presence and email marketing efforts.
 

Major Duties & Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and execution of social media strategy across all Vitamin Angels channels (including LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter/X, YouTube, Vimeo, and new and emerging platforms), in line with brand goals and objectives
  • Partner with the Director of Digital Marketing to bring the organization’s digital strategy to life through effective social media and email tactics
  • Engage corporate partners, influencers, and influential organizations, partners, and stakeholders in the digital space to broaden Vitamin Angels’ visibility, reputation, and reach
  • Manage campaign planning, content calendars, publishing, reporting, and optimization across all social channels 
  • Use data to continually optimize strategy, planning, content, and performance
  • Oversee monthly content calendar planning and scheduling, daily publishing, and community management
  • Serve as the project lead, bringing together diverse contributors and stakeholders regularly to ensure stellar social and email performance
  • Independently develop and pitch compelling content ideas to department/organizational stakeholders to drive impressions, traffic, and engagement
  • Work with stakeholders from within and outside of the department and organization to ideate, craft, and create engaging and shareable campaign content
  • Create creative briefs and draft creative asset requests for social content 
  • Develop KPIs and monthly performance reports that measure effectiveness and inform ongoing optimization 
  • Support the execution of influencer campaigns in partnership with our PR team and agency
  • Execute email marketing strategy including copywriting and design 
  • Partner with digital marketing team to develop compelling copy for paid search, social, and display and ensuring our paid strategies are cohesive, impactful, and efficient across communication channels
  • Build relationships and actively engage in relevant online conversations to strengthen Vitamin Angels' digital presence.
  • Maximize performance through x-channel promotion; For example, pulling social and email activations across paid and other organic channels such as the website (Newsroom), paid and earned PR initiatives, and more.

Level of Decision-Making 

Within the bounds of Vitamin Angels’ mission, values and policies, and sound professional practices, the Social Media Manager has the discretion to use independent judgment to make decisions of significant consequence that affect Vitamin Angels participants, partners, and employees. 

Organizational Relationships

Vitamin Angels operates under a collaborative, matrix management model. The Social Media Manager independently establishes daily work priorities and ensures that all responsibilities are conducted consistent with accepted best practices, sound professional judgment, and within established schedule and budget.

Qualifications and Skills (Required and Preferred) 

Required:

  • 8—10 years of relevant work experience embedded in a comparable global public health nonprofit leading social media with audiences (eg. donor, scientific, mass market)
  • BA/BS degree or equivalent practical experience 
  • Experience developing social media and email marketing strategy, plans, content, and analytics and managing monthly content strategy and calendars across multiple channels
  • The ability to write strong, dynamic copy across a variety of mediums is essential. 
  • Proven success growing audience engagement and followers on LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter/X, and YouTube; Experience on other platforms (e.g., TikTok, WhatsApp, Bluesky, etc.) a plus
  • Excellent written communication and editing skills, with the ability to write clear briefs for agency and creative partners
  • Strong knowledge of social media measurement tools, techniques, and platforms, (e.g., Hootsuite, Sprout Social, etc.) 
  • Knowledge of organic and paid social, with the ability to connect the dots to maximize brand presence
  • Ability to interpret complicated or industry-specific information and translate it into digestible content
  • Exceptional communicator and relationship builder with strong interpersonal and written communication skills 
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills
