AI Summary

The role involves designing complex information architectures and high-contrast UI patterns for agricultural data across web and mobile platforms. You will establish design standards, facilitate usability testing in real-world settings, and mentor junior designers to ensure a user-centric product ecosystem.

Our team and what we'll accomplish together

At TELUS Agriculture, our mission is to empower farmers, agronomists, retailers, and supply chain partners with intelligent, intuitive digital solutions that transform complex agricultural data into actionable decisions. The Experience Design team is the creative engine behind our platform innovation, operating at the intersection of agricultural complexity and elegant simplicity. We don't just make things look pretty—we're translating farm data (weather patterns, machinery telematics, soil health) into experiences that work in tractors, barns, trucks and quiet home offices. As a UX/UI Designer, you'll be instrumental in designing for diverse user personas—from farm owners managing P&L to operators needing glove-friendly interfaces to agronomists diving deep into precision data. You'll help establish design as a strategic partner in product development, ensuring every solution is user-centric, accessible, and consistent across our entire product ecosystem.

What you'll do

  • Design information architecture that organizes complex farm data (weather, machinery telematics, soil metrics, livestock tracking) into clear hierarchies, ensuring users can quickly access urgent alerts and actionable insights without cognitive overload
  • Create high-contrast, glove-friendly UI patterns optimized for outdoor use, variable lighting conditions, and mobile-first workflows, including offline-first design patterns that sync seamlessly when connectivity returns
  • Develop compelling data visualizations and precision agriculture dashboards that transform complex datasets into actionable stories—heat maps for field performance, predictive modeling for yield optimization, and 'what-if' scenario planning
  • Establish and maintain design standards across all products through design system documentation, accessibility guidelines, and brand consistency, ensuring a cohesive experience across farm management, AI features, and supply chain solutions
  • Facilitate design critiques, usability testing in real-world agricultural settings, and co-creation workshops with cross-functional teams to embed user-centric design thinking throughout product development
  • Mentor junior designers and champion design excellence, helping the organization build a culture where design leads the way in ensuring every product is user-centric and consistent

What you bring

  • 5+ years of professional experience in UX/UI design, ideally within SaaS, complex platform ecosystems, or domain-specific software (agriculture, logistics, energy, or similar data-intensive industries)
  • A strong portfolio demonstrating user-centered design process, cross-platform design (web and mobile), and experience solving complex, multi-stakeholder problems with diverse user needs
  • Proficiency in design tools such as Figma or similar modern design platforms, with the ability to create wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity visual designs
  • Deep understanding of responsive design, accessibility standards (WCAG), and usability principles—with specific experience designing for outdoor, mobile-first, and variable lighting environments
  • Proven experience designing data visualizations, dashboards, and information architecture for complex datasets and decision-support systems
  • Experience working in agile, cross-functional teams with product managers, engineers, and domain experts to translate business and user needs into design solutions
  • Excellent communication and storytelling skills—able to articulate design rationale, conduct user research, and present findings to diverse stakeholders (farmers, agronomists, retailers, and technical teams)
  • Passion for agriculture, sustainability, or solving real-world problems through thoughtful, human-centered design

Great-to-haves

  • Experience designing for or familiarity with agricultural technology, farm management software, precision agriculture, or supply chain solutions
  • Knowledge of GIS (Geographic Information Systems) mapping, geospatial data visualization, or experience working with location-based data and mapping interfaces
  • Understanding of front-end development principles (HTML/CSS/React) or exposure to how design translates into code, particularly for mobile and offline-first applications
