Avar Consulting is seeking a Senior Statistician to join its team supporting our Federal government clients on multiple projects encompassing education, labor, veteran’s affairs, and others. Central to each task is the ability to conduct technical quality reviews of research and evaluation products, and to assess whether these products meet established statistical standards, guidelines, and policies.

Required Skills and Relevant Experience


The Senior Statistician must have the following skills and experience:

  • Strong knowledge of the technical approaches used to carry out research and analysis on labor and program evaluation. 
  • A minimum of five years of experience in performing empirical social science research. 
  • Knowledge and understanding of US Department of Labor agencies and programs, as well as evaluation and research efforts, is preferred, as is prior experience facilitating joint projects between federal agencies. 
  • Strong statistical and economic analysis skills, and experience in performing complex statistical analysis using large data sets. 
  • Expert level knowledge of appropriate evaluation, statistical, and sampling approaches and methodologies and the ability to identify and recommend suggestions and solutions to improve evaluation and survey designs, as well as analysis projects.
  • Expert in use of MS Office products, including Word, Power Point, and Excel, as well as statistical software such as R, Python, STATA and SAS. 
  • Ability to perform web research and effectively communicate orally and in writing.
  • Familiarity with the Paperwork Reduction Act (PRA) is desired (but not required).

Education Requirements:

  • Advanced degree (Ph.D. preferred) in an applied quantitative discipline such as statistics, computer science, criminology, economics, or other social science related field, and have produced relevant technical research products demonstrating applied experience, preferably including at least one scholarly peer-reviewed paper in an academic journal.

*Due to the nature of the work of this contract, only US citizens and permanent residents will be considered for this role.
