The engineer will remediate and re-implement legacy VBA and SAP GUI scripting tools to ensure compatibility with the SAP S/4HANA environment. They will also maintain existing legacy systems, support data integrity, and contribute to the modernization of tooling toward cloud-native solutions.

Ciklum is looking for a Senior SAP Automation Engineer to join our team full-time in Poland.

We are a custom product engineering company that supports both multinational organizations and scaling startups to solve their most complex business challenges. With a global team of over 4,000 highly skilled developers, consultants, analysts and product owners, we engineer technology that redefines industries and shapes the way people live.

About the role:

As a Senior SAP Automation Engineer, become a part of a cross-functional development team engineering experiences of tomorrow.

We are looking for software engineers with experience in SAP GUI automation and scripting to join our Model Production Digital team. The team builds and runs the digital ecosystem that Client Model Production depends on producing physical models. A significant part of this ecosystem is a portfolio of Excel/VBA tools that automate SAP processes through SAP GUI Scripting. These tools support critical activities such as production scheduling, BOM uploads, capacity management, and production order follow up.

As part of the transformation from SAP ECC Galaxy to SAP S/4HANA, several of these tools are at risk of being affected. Each tool therefore needs to be reverse engineered, adapted, or reimplemented for S/4HANA, tested and verified together with the business users who depend on it.

Responsibilities:

  • Remediate VBA / SAP GUI scripting tools for S/4HANA: reverse-engineer the business process and tool logic together with stakeholders, re-implement the SAP scripting, if necessary, test, resolve issues and verify with business users
  • Maintain and support the existing legacy landscape: Excel/VBA, Access, SQL Server, SharePoint, including bug fixes and enhancements triaged via our support system ServiceNow, prioritized with business stakeholders
  • SAP integration maintenance: keeping VBA-based SAP GUI scripting working across SAP upgrades and locale changes
  • User access management: Familiarity with AD Groups, SharePoint groups, SQL Server user tables (manual sync)
  • Data integrity: maintaining data pipelines (timestamp triggers, PowerBI dataflow refresh schedules)
  • Documentation: maintaining the Confluence pages for legacy tools with key learnings, details of the changes and implementations made, and a recorded walkthrough for each business-critical tool.
  • Contribute to gradual modernization: supporting the migration efforts from Excel-based tooling toward cloud-native solutions

Requirements:

  • Expert-level Excel VBA: most of the portfolio is Excel-based with embedded VBA. Must be able to write and debug complex macros, including large, undocumented, inherited code
  • Experience with SAP GUI Scripting with VBA (automating SAP transactions)
  • Practical workbook engineering: macro-enabled workbooks (.xlsm) with named ranges, Power Query and protected sheets, and managing versions across development and production
  • Solid working knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server and Access: writing and optimizing T-SQL, relational schema design, on-premise SQL administration basics, and working across multiple environments
  • Functional understanding of SAP ECC / S/4HANA in a manufacturing and production context
  • Clear communication with technical and non-technical manufacturing users: Much of the reverse engineering relies on conversations with business users to understand how the tools work and how they are used in practice. Empathy and a user-focused mindset are important, as issues with these tools can have a direct impact on manufacturing operations and the people who depend on them
  • Self-sufficient and knowledge sharing mindset

Desirable:

  • Czech language B1+ — end users speak Czech, documentation & tools partly in Czech
  • Experience with Git/GitHub
  • Azure — Logic Apps, Key Vault, Data Factory (our growing cloud layer)
