Hanover Research seeks a dedicated researcher with expertise in both qualitative and secondary research methodologies to join our dynamic, experienced Secondary and Qualitative (Hybrid) research team. The Senior Research Associate role will support higher education clients and will play an integral role in the design, development, and implementation of qualitative research studies, as well as the execution of secondary research projects such as new academic program market analyses, best practices reports, environmental scans, and competitive benchmarking analyses to support our market research efforts. Projects address a wide range of topics and some will involve a mixed-methods approach.
The Senior Research Associate is expected to manage multiple projects at once and should feel comfortable speaking with students, faculty members, and staff, as well as industry employers and higher education administrators. This position will allow for the swift development and refinement of a comprehensive set of secondary and qualitative research skills. We expect all employees to be intellectually curious, capable of operating independently while checking in at key points in a project, and interested in assuming increasing levels of responsibility. This position will report to a Research Director within the team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for:
Responsibilities
Designing interview and focus group protocols independently
Identifying appropriate contacts for in-depth interviews (IDIs) or focus group projects
Conducting outreach to recruit participants for qualitative research studies
Conducting and recording interviews/focus groups with anyone relevant to our research (employers, students, faculty, staff, administrators, subject matter experts, etc.)
Compiling detailed notes to produce emerging findings and to augment interview/focus group transcripts
Analyzing transcripts and thematic coding independently
Conducting secondary research to address research questions related to key topics in Higher Education
Collecting data from online sources and proprietary datasets to enable analysis
Producing client-ready deliverables, largely in PPT, to communicate findings to varying audiences (e.g., senior higher education administrators and board members, faculty members, community members)
Independently managing different phases of the project lifecycle over tight timelines and delivering reports needing few edits
Performing other research tasks as needed
Qualifications
Self-motivated

Ability to work quickly and independently
Ability to manage concurrent research projects and prioritize project components effectively
Willingness to tackle complex, often unfamiliar research requests
Ability to synthesize content and develop insight effectively
Experience interacting professionally over the phone or videoconference software
High comfort level speaking with industry experts or senior administrators over the phone
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Experience writing and researching for a business or professional audience
Strong command of the English language and demonstrated writing and editing skills
High comfort level with Microsoft Office applications, such as Word, Excel, and Power Point
Preferred
Experience working in or having a working understanding of the higher education industry
Familiarity using datasets such as IPEDS, Chmura JobsEQ, or U.S. census data
Experience with qualitative research (e.g., interviews, UX methods, focus groups)
Experience performing research as either undergraduate or graduate student
Education Requirement
A Bachelor’s in English, History, Psychology, Political Science, Sociology, Anthropology, or a related writing/research-intensive discipline is preferred, though candidates with relevant experience and who hold other degrees will be considered. Master’s degree preferred.
Experience Requirement
1-3 years of business or academic experience conducting secondary and qualitative research and writing professionally is preferred. Applied market research experience is preferred.

Compensation
Hanover Research strives to create compensation and benefits programs that are competitive, equitable and fair. The compensation range for this role at the company is $53,800 - $60,000. Please note that the base salary offered is contingent on the candidate’s job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Our base pay range is determined by the role and the market.
