What You'll Do
Enterprise Regulatory Strategy and Oversight
- Establish and maintain enterprise-wide standards, policies, and best practices for regulatory compliance documentation across all business units and sites
- Serve as the final point of review and approval for complex or high-risk customer regulatory documentation, letters of conformance, and compliance statements
- Advise senior leadership on the business impact of evolving domestic and international regulations affecting current and future product lines
- Set priorities and direction for the organization's regulatory roadmap in partnership with Quality, R&D, and Commercial leadership
Regulatory Compliance Assessment and Escalation
- Serve as the organization's most senior technical authority on FDA food contact regulations, including complex CFR interpretations and indirect food additive determinations
- Resolve complex or ambiguous California Proposition 65 exposure and warning determinations that require senior-level judgment
- Provide expert guidance on multi-state and international regulatory conflicts, including REACH, PPWR, EU food contact frameworks, China national standards, and Mercosur regulations
- Serve as the escalation point for Regulatory Stewards on the most technically or legally complex compliance questions
Regulatory Monitoring, Intelligence, and Policy
- Monitor global regulatory developments at a strategic level and determine the organization's response to significant new or amended regulations
- Own and govern the organization's regulatory reference library, ensuring it reflects current, validated guidance across all applicable jurisdictions
- Translate emerging regulatory trends into proactive recommendations for product development and sourcing decisions
Team Development
- Provide functional mentorship, and technical development to Regulatory Stewards across the organization
- Review and coach the work of Regulatory Stewards to ensure consistency, accuracy, and quality of customer-facing documentation
- Support onboarding and training of new regulatory team members on organizational standards and regulatory frameworks
Cross-Functional and External Engagement
- Serve as the organization's senior regulatory representative with key customers, suppliers, industry associations, and regulatory bodies
- Partner with raw material suppliers at a strategic level to validate regulatory data and resolve complex compliance gaps
- Provide final review and approval for the purchase of new resins and additives for trial and commercial use where regulatory risk is elevated
Documentation Systems Governance
- Own the governance of standardized templates, workflows, and recordkeeping systems used across the regulatory documentation function
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives to scale regulatory documentation processes and tools as customer and regulatory demands grow
- Ensure enterprise-wide documentation is audit-ready and supports the organization's ability to demonstrate regulatory compliance to customers, regulators, and third-party auditors
What You’ll Bring
Essential Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Regulatory Affairs, Polymer Science, or a related field required; advanced degree a plus
Work Experience:
- Minimum of 5-8 years of experience in regulatory affairs, compliance, or a related technical role within the plastics, packaging, chemical, or CPG industry
- Demonstrated experience authoring and approving complex regulatory compliance documents, letters of conformance, and safety data for food contact or consumer product applications
- Proven experience advising senior leadership and representing regulatory positions to external customers, suppliers, or regulatory bodies
- Experience mentoring or providing technical direction to other regulatory professionals a plus
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Expert-level knowledge of FDA food contact material regulations (21 CFR), California Proposition 65, and U.S. state chemical restriction laws
- Deep working knowledge of European chemical and packaging regulations including REACH, PPWR, and EU food contact material Regulations (e.g., EU 10/2011, 2023/2006)
- Advanced knowledge of China national standards for food contact materials and Mercosur packaging and food contact regulations
- Strong executive presence with excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to influence and align cross-functional and senior stakeholders on complex regulatory matters
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- Strong mentoring and coaching orientation
