Sr. Product Owner - Care Coordination Services (CCS)
Summary of Position:
The Sr. Product Owner, Care Coordination Services (CCS) is the day-to-day owner of the product backlog for Verisma's Care Coordination product line. Reporting into Product Management, the Sr. Product Owner translates product strategy and customer requirements — including the build-out of net-new products such as our Forms solution and Referral Management platform — into well-defined user stories, acceptance criteria, and prioritized sprint work that engineering can execute against.
This is an execution-focused, team-facing role. The Sr. Product Owner partners closely with engineering, QA, design, and product management to keep the build cycle moving: refining the backlog, clarifying requirements, accepting delivered work, and removing ambiguity. While the Product Manager owns the product vision, roadmap, market positioning, and pricing, the Sr. Product Owner owns how that vision gets built — sprint by sprint — and is accountable for the quality and predictability of what the scrum team delivers.
Duties & Responsibilities:
• Owning, refining, and prioritizing the CCS product backlog in support of the roadmap
• Writing clear user stories and acceptance criteria, and accepting completed work
• Acting as the primary point of contact for engineering on requirements questions during the sprint
• Partnering with Product Management on discovery, customer feedback, and release readiness for new CCS products
• Duties & Responsibilities
• Own and groom the CCS product backlog: write user stories, define acceptance criteria, attach supporting context, and keep the backlog ranked against the roadmap priorities set by Product Management
• Lead backlog refinement, sprint planning, daily standup, sprint review, and retrospective ceremonies as the product representative on the scrum team
• Translate roadmap initiatives — including the Forms solution, Referral Management platform, and other CCS programs — into release plans, epics, features, and stories that engineering can size and commit to
• Make day-to-day prioritization and trade-off decisions inside the sprint; escalate scope or roadmap-level decisions to the Product Manager
• Accept completed user stories against acceptance criteria and confirm release readiness
• Partner with engineering and QA to triage defects, clarify edge cases, and resolve ambiguity quickly so the team is never blocked on requirements
• Coordinate with UX/design to ensure flows and mockups are in place ahead of development
• Support Product Management on customer discovery, user interviews, and validation sessions — bringing back insights that refine the backlog
• Maintain product documentation: PRDs (in partnership with the PM), user stories, release notes, internal training materials, and post-launch updates
• Support release activities including UAT coordination, customer pilot management, and internal enablement of sales, implementation, and customer success teams
• Track and report sprint and release metrics (velocity, throughput, defect rates, scope changes); surface risks early
• Contribute to competitive and market awareness by reviewing customer feedback, support tickets, and field input, and routing relevant signals to Product Management
• Act as a connective tissue across product, engineering, QA, design, customer success, and implementation for the CCS product line
• Leverage AI tools (e.g., Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot, and purpose-built product/AI tooling) to accelerate product operations — drafting and refining user stories, synthesizing customer feedback, generating release notes and documentation, analyzing support and usage data, and speeding up backlog grooming
• Perform other appropriate duties, as assigned, to meet the needs of the department and the company
• Live by and promote Verisma Core Values
Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Business, Healthcare Administration, Computer Science, or a related field, preferred
• Minimum of 3-5 years' experience as a Product Owner, Business Analyst, or similar role on a software product team
• Demonstrated experience owning a product backlog in an Agile/Scrum environment — writing user stories, defining acceptance criteria, and partnering with engineering through delivery
• 2+ years of experience in healthcare technology, with preference for Care Coordination, Health Information Management, Release of Information, EHR/EMR, referral management, clinical workflow, or related domains
• Hands-on experience with backlog and project tooling such as Azure DevOps, Jira, or equivalent
• Competency in Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
• Strong analytical skills — able to break complex problems into well-scoped stories and use data to inform prioritization
• Excellent teamwork skills and proven ability to collaborate with engineers, designers, QA, and product managers
• Ability to extract requirements from internal business stakeholders and customers and translate them into clear, testable stories
• Exceptional oral and written communication skills, with strong documentation discipline
• Strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail
• Ability to perform comfortably in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment, including environments where products are being built from 0 to 1
• Ability to work independently as a self-starter while taking direction from Product Management
• Must be able to travel up to 25% of the time, as needed, for customer visits, discovery, and team collaboration
Preferred Qualifications:
• Demonstrated hands-on use of AI tools (Claude, ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, Cursor, or similar) in day-to-day product operations is a major plus — for example, using AI to draft and refine user stories, synthesize customer interviews, analyze support tickets and feedback at scale, generate release notes and enablement content, automate routine documentation, and accelerate backlog refinement. We are an AI-forward product organization and expect this Product Owner to actively raise the team's AI utilization.
• Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO), SAFe Product Owner/Product Manager (POPM), or equivalent certification
• Working familiarity with the U.S. healthcare provider environment, HIPAA, and basic awareness of interoperability standards (FHIR, HL7) preferred
• Experience supporting 0-to-1 product builds — taking new products from concept through launch
• Experience with referral management, intake/forms automation, or care coordination workflow products
• Familiarity with AI/ML-enabled product features applied to clinical or administrative workflows
