A bit about us
Cartrack is a smart mobility SaaS company with 2.6 M+ subscribers across 23 countries. We build the software fleet operators use every day, vehicle telematics, AI-powered cameras, driver safety tools, maintenance and cost management, delivery and field services. Our design team is small, senior, and hands-on: designers here own their work end to end, from discovery through shippable prototypes, not just handoff decks.
What makes this role different
Your customer is the team, not the fleet manager. You'll own our design platform: the design system (components, tokens, documentation, governance) and the AI-assisted prototyping workflow that lets designers generate working HTML prototypes mapped to real production components, cutting out redundant Figma redraws and engineering rebuilds. The first job is a build: codifying the design system and standing up the AI workflow as version one. After that, it's yours to run and grow. Success is measured in everyone else's speed: design-to-ship cycle time, component coverage, and adoption across the team.
Where the team is headed
We're moving away from a traditional "design → spec → handoff" model. Designers on this team work like builders: taking work from problem definition through to production-ready prototypes, and increasingly into shipped code. We're going all-in on AI as part of the craft, and this role sits at the center of that shift.
Responsibilities
● Build Design System & AI Transformation v1: define scope, codify the component library and tokens across Fleet Web and the Driver App, and stand up the AI-assisted prototyping pipeline.
● Own the system long-term: govern contributions, decide what gets absorbed into the system versus kept local, and extend coverage as product pillars evolve.
● Keep the AI-prototyping workflow aligned with production code: generated prototypes must map to real components, not invent new patterns.
● Write real front-end code: build and maintain components in partnership with engineering, not just Figma libraries.
● Serve the team: unblock designers and engineers, run enablement, and treat internal adoption as your core metric.
● Evolve the platform as tooling and AI capabilities improve: the system should get better every quarter, not just bigger.
Requirements
● 5+ years of product design experience, with 2+ years building and owning a design system used by multiple designers and engineers, including its code layer, not only its Figma layer.
● 4+ years in product design, design systems, or design engineering, with hands-on ownership of a design system used by multiple designers and engineers, including its code layer, not only its Figma layer.
● Strong front-end skills: HTML/CSS required, JavaScript/framework experience (React, Vue, or similar) strongly preferred. You're comfortable in a codebase.
● Systems thinking: you design components that scale and compose, and you can explain the trade-offs of your architecture choices.
● Governance experience or clear instinct: contribution models, documentation, and adoption approaches that serve teams rather than police them.
● Hands-on interest in AI-assisted design and prototyping: you'll be building ours, not just using it.
● A service mindset: you measure your success by how much faster everyone else ships.
● Comfortable working async across time zones with a distributed team.
