Working on the Team
We are looking to hire a Senior Platform Engineer to join our team. This role reports to the Platform Engineering Lead. You will be joining a small team of technical professionals who cover hybrid Windows and Linux administration, remote Linux fleet management, DevOps based software deployments, and management of cloud infrastructure and services. You will work alongside a senior Linux administrator and a lead platform engineer, and with the software development team day to day. Because the team is small, you will touch a wide range of systems: Microsoft Azure, our AI stack, security tooling, and the CI/CD pipelines behind our product, rather than a narrow slice of one.

In this role, you will design, build, and maintain the scalable infrastructure and internal tooling that support our products and Software Development team. The role involves implementing Infrastructure-as-Code, managing containerized workloads, and administering both Windows and Linux systems, including a fleet of remotely deployed Linux appliances. Our environment was built quickly as the company scaled. You will be expected to bring practices from prior roles, identify where we can improve, and drive those improvements. Early priorities include cleaning up and standardizing our CI/CD pipelines, projects, and repositories in Azure DevOps. Additionally, you will put security and compliance first with all your work, playing a key role in hardening our systems.

This is a remote role. There is no on-call rotation. Routine maintenance runs on weekly, monthly, and quarterly checklists during business hours, rotated across the team. Travel is minimal.

Responsibilities:

· Design, deploy, administer, and maintain Windows and Linux OS endpoints, remotely deployed Linux appliances, and cloud-native services in Microsoft Azure

· Work with CI/CD pipelines, code security, and deployments via Azure DevOps

· Create automation where applicable to improve efficiency of repeatable administration tasks

· Administration of Azure and M365 cloud services

· Administer a fleet of hundreds of remotely deployed Linux and Docker appliances at client sites, with no physical access, using configuration management (Puppet today)

· Maintain and improve system security posture

· Monitor and enhance system performance

· Design procedures for software/hardware troubleshooting and maintenance

· Support development team’s needs throughout the various software environments

· Work with development team to troubleshoot and debug issues with applications and services

· Assist development team with release deployments as needed

· Serve as an escalation path for end-user support tickets for internal staff and contractors, a minor part of the role

· Assist with implementing and managing disaster recovery processes

· Participation in weekly, monthly, and quarterly proactive checks across all systems and services

Qualifications

· At least three years of experience in systems engineering, platform engineering, or similar

· Linux systems administration experience, preferably with Ubuntu, including package management, system services, user and permissions management, filesystems, logging, networking, patching, performance tuning, and security hardening

· Bash and Linux command-line proficiency

· Experience working with or inside a software development team on delivery in Azure DevOps or GitHub: pipelines, repositories, environments, and releases

· Strong technical knowledge across Microsoft products and services, with the ability to operate effectively in hybrid Windows, Linux, and Azure environments

· Strong knowledge of networking concepts (DNS, routing, firewall ACLs)

· Experience with configuring and maintaining SSO using Entra ID

· Experience developing Infrastructure-as-Code via PowerShell, Bicep, JSON, Terraform, or similar

· Experience with a configuration management tool (Puppet, Ansible, Salt, or similar) in production, with sound judgment on what to manage under code and what to leave alone

· SQL Server identity and access management (not query or database maintenance work)

· Experience supporting cloud-native microservices such as container apps/container instances

· Extensive troubleshooting experience with servers, desktops, networking, and SaaS platforms

· Business oriented and result driven individual with a desire to grow in a developing company

· Timely and effective communications with distributed teams

· Ability and willingness to take on projects outside of the regular scope of work

· Strong team spirit, balanced by a healthy sense of autonomy

· Excellent time management and organizational skills

Additional Qualifications/Pluses

· Experience administering remote or edge Linux devices in bandwidth-constrained, intermittently connected, and/or security-sensitive environments

· Scripting experience in Python and/or PowerShell for administration, automation, and troubleshooting

· Experience with Atlassian product suite including Jira and Confluence

· Observability and incident response experience: monitoring, alerting, and root-cause analysis

· Puppet experience

· Working knowledge of Meraki networking administration

· Familiarity with zScaler ZIA and ZPA

· Deploying and troubleshooting Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL)

· Managing Docker images in Azure Container Registry or similar

· Experience with database-as-a-service platforms
