WHO WE ARE

ActBlue is a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating cutting-edge technology that fuels Democratic victories and enables progressive causes to thrive.

Our vision is simple: building change through the power of people. Since our founding, we’ve been building innovative solutions to revolutionize grassroots fundraising – if you’ve donated to a Democratic campaign or a progressive organization online, you’ve probably used our platform! We believe in putting power in the hands of small-dollar donors by helping thousands of groups — from local candidates to national movements — mobilize their communities and create a lasting impact. Every member of our team is deeply committed to advancing our shared mission and core values. Together, we are shaping the future of democracy.

THE OPPORTUNITY

The Senior Manager, Product for Downballot & Trust is a player-coach role reporting to the Director of Product. You will primarily lead, manage, and coach other product managers in their work to deliver on ActBlue’s goals while also spending a smaller portion of your time serving as day-to-day product manager. This role supports a diverse and talented team of product managers, engineers, designers, and researchers who work collaboratively to tackle challenging issues at scale.

You will be the strategic and executional owner of your domain space: expected to deliver a compelling strategic vision and ensure we achieve that vision confidently and on time. You know how to enter into an ambiguous space, ramp up quickly, set a strategic vision rooted in user needs, data insights, and business context, moving quickly from insight to decision to implementation. You bring deep experience in every aspect of the full software development lifecycle for both 0-to-1 products and maturing established products, from planning through go-to-market and post-launch iteration. You can execute those steps yourself and can teach others to do the same.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Directly manage a group of product managers responsible for closely-related areas of the ActBlue Downballot offering and Trust initiatives, including creating and implementing the strategy for the team, in alignment with the Product Department’s initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Product and equivalent partners in engineering and operations leadership on organizational design, recruiting and onboarding new hires.
  • Serve as the points of contact and escalation for cross-platform initiatives and help manage key stakeholder relationships across senior leadership and across multiple departments.
  • Ensure the continued growth and career development of the product managers on your team.
  • Offer strategic thought leadership on Downballot products to product department leaders in identifying, articulating, and socializing product vision and strategy, and connecting the dots between the product work of multiple teams to help downballot candidates win elections.
  • Mobilize your team to execute swiftly and embrace iterative development.
  • Define meaningful product KPIs and evaluate the effectiveness of your initiatives through product instrumentation, data analysis, and user research. Drive strategic roadmap investments to improve those KPIs over time.
  • Write clear and concise product requirements focused on framing the user need, context, constraints, opportunities, and goals – and effectively communicate them to senior leaders, designers, data scientists, and developers for all cross-product platform work.
  • Proactively identify and resolve roadblocks and technical dependencies within your team’s roadmap, and work cross-functionally to manage trade-offs, balance organization and customer needs with technical and resource constraints, and ensure the right product ships at the right time.
  • Build and foster a strong product culture around testing and learning in order to iterate quickly, mitigate risk, and get to the right product.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • You are a seasoned, high-capacity senior product manager with 6-8 years of experience as a product manager, and 5+ years recent experience leading complex, multifaceted product initiatives and keeping track of multiple product lines simultaneously
  • You have worked with and succeeded in geographically distributed, cross-functional product teams in the process of creating – and shipping – complex products, and you’re excited about a leadership role in solving complicated product challenges at scale.
  • Your approach to product starts with a keen understanding of user behavior and motivations, grounded in both qualitative and quantitative user insights. You have experience designing effective product experiments that help the team learn, and you know how to use that data to inform the evolution of your product, platform, and/or feature areas.
  • You’re a compelling presenter with strong listening, persuasion, and facilitation skills, whether you’re talking to our payment partners, hashing through the details of technical tradeoffs, or communicating to leadership. You know when to adjust your focus, vocabulary, and level of detail according to the audience and the goal of the conversation.
  • You are a senior-level individual contributor with cross-team leadership experience or an early-stage people manager with a track record of mentorship, investing in others’ growth, and building team cohesion.
  • You are always seeking new ways to leverage your team’s strengths, recruit great talent, develop individual product managers, and build cohesive, collaborative, and empowered teams, enabling them to do the best work of their careers.
  • You are a strategic systems thinker with a pragmatic and adaptable approach to product management. You apply best practices, but are always on the lookout for new approaches to try; you know when to build a quick and dirty experiment and when to build at scale, and you know when to push to look at more data and when to just make a call.
  • You are experienced with emerging technologies and best practices in the space (e.g., AI in product development) and bring a learner’s mindset to exploring new ways, tools, and approaches to continuously evolve and improve your skills and approach.
  • You care about progressive causes and politics and want to spend your time making a meaningful impact by doing what you do best.
