Who We Are
Mercy Ships is a global faith-based charity that uses hospital ships to bring life-changing surgeries and transformational medical training to people in some of the most challenging contexts along the African coast. For over 40 years, Mercy Ships has been delivering lasting hope and healing through safe surgical care, while working alongside partners and stakeholders to strengthen local healthcare systems in more than 55 countries. Since the inception of this dream by founders Don and Deyon Stephens in 1978, Mercy Ships has served more than 2.7 million direct beneficiaries without regard for race, gender, or religion.
Do you have a heart for the hurting and a desire to invest your talents and experiences into a mission with eternal significance? For every transformative surgery that takes place onboard one of our Mercy Ships, there are dozens of men and women being used of the Lord to prepare the way through their vocational gifts and talents!
The Senior Manager, Ship People & Culture (P&C) Operations provides operational leadership for the P&C teams serving onboard Mercy Ships vessels. This role oversees the Ship P&C Directors and P&C Support Specialists, ensuring consistent, high-quality delivery of P&C services across both ships within a volunteer and maritime-based operating environment.
The Senior Manager partners closely with the Senior Director of Ship P&C Operations and the Transformation Partner to support the implementation of organizational improvements, policy updates, and system enhancements. While not the primary driver of P&C transformation initiatives, the Senior Manager ensures that changes are adopted effectively at the ship level and operationalized in daily practice.
This role supports a multi-status workforce; including volunteers and employees, within a faith-based, international NGO environment. It serves as the operational bridge between shipboard P&C teams and shore-based leadership.
The role requires the ability to operate within, or rapidly learn, a maritime-informed context, including shipboard realities, operational constraints, and the integration of crew wellbeing with operational readiness.
