CAREERS THAT CHANGE LIVES

At Medtronic, we are building a world-class IT M&A capability to support our growth strategy across acquisitions, divestitures, and strategic transformations—with a strong emphasis on high-volume tuck-in acquisitions and varied deal structures (structured vs. unstructured).

This is not a traditional program leadership role. This is a senior leadership position within IT, responsible for owning end-to-end IT strategy and execution across complex transactions while helping shape and scale our enterprise M&A capability.

You will operate as a trusted advisor to Corporate Development, business leadership, and IT senior executives. This role is part of Medtronic IT’s extended leadership team and serves as a succession pipeline for future leadership roles.

This role is critical to Medtronic’s ability to execute its M&A strategy and drive enterprise value—particularly through repeatable, high-speed tuck-in acquisitions and the ability to navigate both structured and unstructured deals. The selected leader will shape the future of IT M&A execution and play a key role in delivering high-impact transactions globally.

The Sr. Program Director, IT M&A, will lead and orchestrate IT across the full transaction lifecycle, including:

  • Pre-deal / Due Diligence

  • Sign-to-Close planning and execution

  • Day 1 readiness and Separation / Integration execution

  • Post-close value realization

This role spans multiple deal types, with a primary focus on:

  • Tuck-in acquisitions (high frequency, speed-to-value)

  • Structured deals (well-defined scope, clear integration pathways)

  • Unstructured deals (ambiguous scope, incomplete data, evolving deal theses)

  • Carveouts and divestitures

Success requires the ability to adapt execution approach based on deal structure, maturity, and ambiguity level.

Success in this role requires operating effectively in environments where deal structure, scope, and data are incomplete at sign, requiring iterative decision-making and executive judgment.

Key Responsibilities:

End-to-End IT Deal Leadership

  • Lead IT strategy and execution across multiple concurrent M&A transactions

  • Own IT due diligence, risk assessment, and synergy identification

  • Define and tailor integration or separation strategies (integrate, isolate, replace) based on deal type and structure (tuck-in, structured, unstructured)

  • Drive rapid, high-quality execution for tuck-in acquisitions, balancing speed-to-value with enterprise standards

  • Establish execution approaches for both highly structured deals and ambiguous, unstructured transactions where scope and data evolve over time

  • Ensure Day 1 readiness, stabilize post-close operations, and accelerate time-to-value across high-velocity integrations

Enterprise IT Strategy & Architecture Leadership

  • Guide target-state IT architecture across applications, data, infrastructure, and cybersecurity

  • Navigate complex, legacy IT environments including ERP, manufacturing, and commercial platforms

  • Make trade-off decisions balancing speed, cost, risk, and scalability, particularly in time-constrained tuck-in scenarios

Stakeholder & Executive Engagement

  • Operate as a trusted IT advisor to Corporate Development, Integration Management Office, and executive leadership

  • Partner closely during early deal shaping for both structured and unstructured transactions

  • Lead executive forums, steering committees, and cross-functional decision-making

  • Build strong partnerships across IT, Finance, HR, Global Operations and Supply Chain, R&D, Legal, Quality and operating units

Capability Building & Global Operating Model

  • Build and scale IT M&A execution capability, including:

    • Playbooks and reusable assets tailored for tuck-in vs. large/complex deals

    • Differentiated approaches for structured vs. unstructured deals

    • Governance frameworks aligned to deal type and complexity

    • Standardized workplans and execution models

  • Institutionalize repeatable, high-velocity execution models for tuck-in integrations

  • Lead global, matrixed teams across regions

  • Drive continuous improvement and institutionalization of best practices

Operator + Consultant Leadership

  • Combine hands-on IT ownership experience with structured problem-solving and executive advisory skills

  • Bring clarity and structure to unstructured and ambiguous deal environments

  • Lead and challenge strategic partners (e.g., Accenture, Deloitte)

  • Translate complex technical issues into actionable executive decisions

Leadership & Culture

  • Lead with accountability, urgency, and execution excellence

  • Thrive in high-velocity tuck-in environments while maintaining enterprise discipline

  • Navigate complex corporate environments with competing priorities

  • Contribute to building a high-performance M&A culture across the enterprise

MUST HAVE (Minimum Qualifications)

  • 15+ years of relevant experience with a bachelor’s degree or 13+ years of experience with an advanced degree

  • 10+ years of leadership experience

NICE TO HAVE (Highly Preferred):

Enterprise IT & M&A Leadership

  • Demonstrated ownership of multiple M&A transactions across due diligence, sign-to-close, and integration/separation

  • Experience across multiple deal types (acquisition, carveout, divestiture)

  • Proven experience leading tuck-in acquisitions and adapting to different deal structures (structured vs. unstructured)

Enterprise IT Operator Experience

  • Experience operating within a large, complex enterprise IT environment

  • Ownership of application and/or infrastructure domains

  • Experience managing budgets and teams

  • Experience with legacy and regulated environments

People & Capability Leadership

  • Proven experience building and leading global or multi-region teams

  • Track record of scaling capability and developing talent

Stakeholder & Executive Leadership

  • Experience working with Corporate Development, operating unit and corporate function leadership, and senior IT executives

  • Demonstrated ability to influence executive-level decisions

  • Background in IT M&A or technology strategy consulting OR significant experience managing strategic advisory partners

  • Experience in medtech, healthcare, or regulated industries

  • Exposure to enterprise platforms (ERP, CRM, data, manufacturing systems)

  • Experience in large, matrixed global organizations
