The Senior Health Physicist is a strategic and technical leader responsible for enterprise-wide radiation safety and regulatory compliance across a national network of radiopharmacies. This role supports the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of radiation protection programs, licensing strategies, and environmental health and safety (EHS) initiatives. The Senior Health Physicist serves as a subject matter expert (SME) in radiation physics, regulatory affairs, and cleanroom operations, and provides mentorship and oversight to junior health physics staff.
Key Accountabilities:
Radiation Safety Program Leadership
Lead and oversee radiation protection audits, surveys, and inspections across all pharmacy
Perform complex radiation protection calculations, including shielding design, dose modeling, effluent assessments, and exposure mitigation strategies.
Provide enterprise-level guidance during radiation-related incidents, including spills, overexposures, and emergency response coordination.
Develop and implement enterprise SOPs and training programs for radiation safety and EHS
Regulatory Affairs & Licensing
Manage the preparation and submission of radioactive materials licenses, amendments, renewals, and decommissioning
Serve as a primary liaison with state and federal regulatory agencies, including Boards of Pharmacy, NRC, and state radiation control programs.
Interpret and apply evolving regulatory requirements (e.g., USP <825>, <797>, <800>) and ensure organizational
Cleanroom & Facility Support
Provide expert consultation on cleanroom microbiology, HVAC systems, and environmental monitoring
Collaborate with pharmacy operations and quality teams to ensure compliance with aseptic processing and facility design
Mentorship & Cross-Functional Collaboration
Mentor and provide technical oversight to Health Physicists and other radiation safety
Partner with Quality Assurance, Regulatory Affairs, and Pharmacy Operations to support inspections, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Documentation & Reporting
Oversee the collection, analysis, and reporting of radiation safety data, including dosimetry, waste management, and incident
Ensure accurate and timely documentation of all radiation safety activities and regulatory correspondence.
Position Requirements:
Education and Experience:
Master’s degree in Health Physics, Nuclear Engineering, Radiologic Science, or a related
5+ years of progressive experience in radiation safety, health physics, or regulatory compliance, preferably in a healthcare or radiopharmaceutical environment.
Certification or eligibility for certification by the American Board of Health Physics (CHP) strongly
Demonstrated experience managing multi-site radiation safety programs and regulatory
Ability to travel up to 30% and respond to incidents on a 24/7 basis as needed.
Deep knowledge of NRC and state radiation regulations, USP <825>, <797>, and <800>.
Strong leadership, mentoring, and project management
Excellent analytical, communication, and technical writing
Proficiency in radiation modeling software and Microsoft Office
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, regulated
