AI Summary

Lead the technical design and hands-on development of a next-generation insurance platform using microservices and event-driven architecture. Collaborate with product owners to translate complex insurance requirements into scalable, secure, and observable production-grade code.

About Us:

At Everly, our vision is to change the paradigm of insurance. We know life insurance can be confusing and complex. We know that most people purchase life insurance at a milestone moment and file it away for the future. We want to change how people think about, buy, and use life insurance by being a partner in life’s journey.  We are focused on making things that matter, making meaningful connections, and making things work WAY better. Our goal is to provide radically transparent, consumer-first insurance solutions.

We are looking for people with a continuous improvement mindset. Those who think the opposite of “This is how we’ve always done it”. We want people on our team who are always asking “How can we do this better?”

Our company values are a guide to our behavior and help inform our decisions.  We want people who embody those values of breaking down barriers, owning the outcome, embracing the journey, and sparking joy.

This is a remote position based in the US with occasional travel.

About the role:

We are seeking a Senior Full Stack Developer to design, build, and own critical components of our next-generation insurance platform. This role sits at the intersection of hands-on engineering, AI-assisted development, and domain-driven architecture. You will be a key individual contributor who leads the technical design of platform capabilities, writes production-grade code, and drives delivery end-to-end alongside a small, high-velocity team.

You will partner closely with the Product Owner, Solution Architect, and fellow engineers to translate complex insurance domain requirements into scalable, secure, and observable microservices. You will build across the full stack and engineering standards — APIs, event-driven integrations, data pipelines, and self-service portals

The ideal candidate brings deep full-stack engineering craft, fluency in AI-assisted SDLC tooling, and the ability to operate at both the design whiteboard and the pull request level. Insurance or fintech domain experience is a strong advantage; a hunger to learn the domain deeply is non-negotiable.

What You’ll Do:

  • Lead technical design of platform capabilities — defining service contracts, event schemas, and data models before a line of code is written
  • Own the hands-on build, test and support— write, review, test and ship production-ready services from greenfield to live, taking full accountability for quality, delivery and production support
  • Drive API-first, event-driven architecture ensuring all services and integrations follow agreed platform patterns and governance standards
  • Embed AI-assisted engineering practices into the daily development workflow to accelerate velocity, improve code quality, and enforce platform consistency
  • Design and deliver integrations with the policy administration system and all upstream and downstream service dependencies
  • Implement durable workflow solutions for complex, long-running insurance processes like underwriting, policy issuance etc.
  • Collaborate with the Product Owner and Solution Architect to decompose requirements, make sound trade-offs, and align engineering decisions to business outcomes
  • Build secure, compliant services by design embedding identity, access control, encryption, and regulatory compliance patterns into every component from day one
  • Own data and testing quality across persistence, calculation logic, and validation suites — ensuring correctness is provable, not assumed
  • Set the engineering bar through code and architecture reviews, platform standards ownership, and unblocking the team in a fast-moving, production-first culture

What You’ll Bring:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field — or equivalent practical experience
  • 10+ years of software engineering experience with a strong record of owning and delivering production systems end-to-end, including hands-on design leadership
  • Expert-level proficiency in TypeScript / Node.js with deep experience building and operating microservices on cloud-native container infrastructure
  • Proven hands-on experience with event-driven architecture
  • Fluency in AI-assisted development tooling and an active habit of using it to generate, validate, and refactor code as part of the standard engineering workflow
  • Strong proficiency across both document and relational database models
  • Deep understanding of Zero Trust security patterns
  • Strong testing discipline across unit, integration, E2E, and performance testing

Preferred

  • Experience in insurance or fintech — new business, underwriting, policy administration, billing, claims, or compliance domains
  • Exposure to HIPAA, SOC2, or PCI-DSS compliance requirements in a shipping product, including SAST/SCA/DAST tooling integrated into CI pipelines
  • Experience in high-growth startups or scaling organizations where you have had to build fast and to a high production quality standard simultaneously
