The Senior Engineering Manager for our Innovations Team provides technical and organizational leadership for emerging initiatives that require close coordination across Product and Engineering. This role exists to strengthen management capacity within the Innovations organization, enabling the team to incubate and scale new technologies, including AI-driven capabilities and other complex initiatives, without overburdening mainline engineering teams. The role leads engineers directly, partners closely with product and engineering leaders, and creates the structure, communication, and delivery clarity needed to move ambiguous, first-of-their-kind work from concept to execution.

About the Role:

  • Lead Innovation engineering initiatives from discovery through delivery, translating ambiguous opportunities into executable plans, clear ownership, and measurable outcomes.

  • Manage and develop direct-report engineers, including performance management, coaching, career development, and day-to-day support for assigned team members.

  • Partner with Product and Engineering leaders to shape cross-functional initiatives, align priorities, and create practical paths to deliver new capabilities across multiple engineering teams.

  • Unblock teams by identifying organizational, technical, and process barriers and driving collaborative solutions that accelerate delivery of net-new technologies.

  • Serve as a primary connection point between Innovation and distributed or acquired engineering teams, helping integrate efforts, clarify responsibilities, and improve operating cadence.

  •  Drive organizational planning for the Innovation function, including resourcing, budget input, initiative prioritization, and realistic schedule development.

  • Provide technical program and project leadership by coordinating dependencies, monitoring progress, surfacing risks, and ensuring initiatives remain aligned to strategic goals.

  • Exceptional people leadership, organizational effectiveness, and cross functional collaboration skills.

  • Strong technical foundation with the ability to quickly understand new technologies, assess tradeoffs, and guide teams through ambiguity.

  • Demonstrated technical project and program management experience, including dependency management, resource planning, and schedule development.

  • High emotional intelligence and the ability to build trust, alignment, and momentum across Product, Engineering, and distributed teams.

  • Humility. Able to lead senior technical people by listening well, bringing out their expertise, and helping the team reach the best outcome without needing to be the smartest person in the room.

  • Strong verbal, written, and executive communication skills, with the ability to convey complex progress and risks in simple, compelling ways.

  • Proven ability to identify blockers early and create practical, collaborative solutions that improve delivery speed and team effectiveness.

  • Experience partnering closely with Product leaders and senior engineers to drive initiatives that span multiple teams and systems.

  • Strong planning skills across budget, staffing, initiative prioritization, and organizational operating rhythms.

  • Experience working with remote, distributed, and acquired teams and helping integrate them into consistent engineering practices and delivery processes.

About You:

  • 12+ years of experience in software engineering, product engineering, or closely related technical roles with progressive growth in responsibility.

  •  Excellent people management skills leading engineering teams across multiple initiatives, systems, and regions.

  •  Demonstrated experience delivering ambiguous, net-new, or innovation focused technical initiatives from concept through execution.

  •  Experience partnering with Product and Engineering leadership on resource planning, prioritization, and roadmap or delivery planning.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field.
