Where you fit:

We are seeking a Senior Engineering Director who leads from the front - a hands-on, full-stack technical leader who can set engineering strategy, manage and mentor teams, and still roll up their sleeves to write production code across the entire stack. This is a player-coach role: you will directly manage engineering staff, indirectly influence technical members across the organization, and contribute as a full-stack individual contributor on our most critical initiatives.

You will champion a security-first and AI-first engineering culture, guide our adoption of agentic engineering practices, and ensure our teams deliver clean, maintainable, well-architected software that delights customers.

This position is full-time and 100% remote.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Leadership & Management

  • Directly manage engineering managers and senior engineers; indirectly lead and influence technical staff across teams
  • Recruit, mentor, and develop engineering talent; build a culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement
  • Partner closely with engineering teams day-to-day - this is not an ivory-tower role
  • Collaborate with product, sales, and customer-facing teams; represent engineering with customers when needed
  • Communicate clearly and often - with executives, engineers, and customers alike - with a strong customer-service orientation

Technical Strategy & Architecture

  • Define and evolve our technical roadmap, architecture standards, and engineering best practices
  • Drive service-oriented architecture (SOA) design and modernization efforts, including migration from .NET Framework to modern .NET
  • Champion security-first engineering: secure SDLC, threat modeling, and compliance built into every stage of development
  • Lead AI-first engineering adoption - integrating AI tooling, agentic engineering workflows, and AI-assisted development into how the team builds software
  • Enforce clean code principles, meaningful code reviews, and high standards for testing and maintainability

Hands-On Contribution

  • Contribute directly to the codebase as a full-stack individual contributor on high-impact features and architectural work
  • Design and build end-to-end solutions: front-end (Angular/React), back-end services and RESTful APIs (.NET), and the database layer (MS SQL, MySQL)
  • Troubleshoot complex production issues and guide teams through incident response

Required Qualifications

  • 8+ years of professional software development experience as a full-stack developer, with several years in engineering leadership (managing managers and/or senior engineers)
  • Proven ability to work confidently across the full stack - UI, APIs, business logic, databases, and cloud infrastructure
  • Deep expertise in .NET (modern .NET and .NET Framework) and C#
  • Strong front-end experience with Angular and React
  • Proven experience designing and building RESTful APIs and service-oriented architectures
  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure (App Services, Functions, DevOps, networking, security services)
  • Strong database skills with Microsoft SQL Server and MySQL - schema design, query optimization, and performance tuning
  • Demonstrated commitment to security-first engineering (OWASP, secure coding, identity/access management)
  • Practical experience with AI-first and agentic engineering - AI coding assistants, LLM-powered features, and/or agent-based workflows
  • Track record of writing and enforcing clean, maintainable code and mentoring others to do the same
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a customer-service mindset
  • Proven ability to operate as both a people leader and an individual contributor

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices (Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions)
  • Infrastructure as code (Terraform, Bicep, or ARM templates) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes/AKS)
  • Experience with microservices, message queues, and event-driven architecture (Service Bus, Kafka, RabbitMQ)
  • Automated testing strategy: unit, integration, and end-to-end testing frameworks
  • Observability and monitoring (Application Insights, Datadog, or similar)
  • Agile/Scrum leadership experience, including sprint planning and delivery management
  • Experience with compliance frameworks relevant to your industry (SOC 2, HIPAA, PCI-DSS, etc.)
  • Experience modernizing legacy systems and leading platform migrations
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience

What Success Looks Like

  • Engineering teams ship high-quality, secure software predictably and efficiently
  • AI and agentic engineering practices measurably improve team velocity and code quality
  • Technical debt is actively managed, and architecture decisions are documented and sound
  • Engineers at all levels are growing, engaged, and retained
