Stellar is an ideal workplace for professionals who are eager to learn, challenge conventional approaches, explore practical innovations and take meaningful ownership in a supportive, collaborative, results-driven, international and professional environment.
Position Summary
Reporting to the Director of Software Development, the Senior DevOps Engineer owns the deployment pipelines, containerized environments and software release lifecycle for Stellar's STEER® software suite across lab, dev and production environments. This is an individual contributor role focused on hands-on technical execution.
The role spans release engineering, containerized deployment and the day-to-day operation of the CI/CD and collaboration platforms, in close partnership with the Infrastructure & Network Engineer, who owns the underlying platform (physical network, virtualization host cluster, storage, backups and identity services).
Scope note: The DevOps Engineer administers guest operating systems, hosted applications, containers and software release pipelines, whether running on-premises or on production cloud VPS. The Infrastructure & Network Engineer provisions and secures the platform; the DevOps Engineer deploys and operates what runs on it.
Key Responsibilities
CI/CD & Release Engineering
- Design, build and maintain CI/CD pipelines using GitLab CI (or equivalent) to automate build, test and deployment workflows.
- Own and administer the CI/CD and collaboration platforms (GitLab and related tooling), including updates, runners, access and maintenance.
- Manage the deployment of STEER® software releases across lab, dev and production environments, including controlled rollout, rollback procedures and release documentation.
Containerization & Configuration Management
- Manage the Docker Swarm cluster that runs the application workloads, including the multi-service STEER Management stack (Django, Channels, Celery, Redis and PostgreSQL).
- Use Ansible to provision and configure the operating systems and applications on the machines that make up a deployment (management server, gateway and VPS with VPN connectivity), maintained as infrastructure-as-code across several repositories.
- Administer application-level configuration, patching and lifecycle inside VMs, coordinating with the Infrastructure & Network Engineer for any platform-level change.
Production Cloud VPS
- Administer the guest operating system and application layer of Stellar's production cloud VPS: hardening, patching and configuration.
- Deploy and operate STEER® software releases on cloud VPS, following the same lab/dev/prod promotion process used for on-premises environments.
- Coordinate with the Infrastructure & Network Engineer on the network and security perimeter of these VPS (firewall rules, security groups, VPN and remote access); provider account access (billing, account-level IAM, provider selection) is managed separately by company management.
Monitoring & Observability
- Implement and maintain application-level monitoring and logging, complementing the infrastructure-level monitoring already in place.
- Define alerting and dashboards for deployment health, service performance and release quality.
- Setup and operate secrets management for pipelines and deployments (credential storage, distribution, and rotation), shared with the Infrastructure & Network Engineer.
Collaboration & Documentation
- Partner with software engineers, product and operations teams to align deployment practices with product roadmaps.
- Maintain clear documentation for pipelines, deployment procedures and release runbooks.
- Share DevOps best practices across the engineering organization.
Required Experience and Skills
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in a DevOps role, ideally within a high-growth software or telecommunications company.
- Strong Linux administration skills (Debian a plus, matching Stellar's infrastructure stack).
- Production experience with Docker.
- Hands-on experience with Ansible or equivalent configuration management / IaC tooling.
- Experience designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines (GitLab CI or equivalent).
- Scripting proficiency in Python and Shell.
- Experience managing software releases across multiple environments (lab, dev, staging, production).
- Experience with secrets management for CI/CD and production deployments.
- Familiarity with private cloud and VPS environments (Stellar's primary setup) and with major public clouds (AWS, Azure, GCP), which some customer deployments require.
- Agile mindset and comfort working closely with an Infrastructure & Network Engineer on shared platform dependencies.
- Professional proficiency in English (French a plus).
Preferred Experience
- Experience with embedded or constrained Linux environments (e.g. OpenWrt) relevant to edge deployments.
- Experience with application-level observability tooling (e.g. Prometheus or Grafana).
- Prior experience in telecommunications, satellite or mobility connectivity products.
What We Offer
- Strong technical ownership over Stellar's software release and deployment lifecycle.
- Direct, visible impact on the reliability and velocity of STEER® releases.
- Exposure to telecommunications, mobility, edge computing and connected systems.
- Continuous learning in a supportive, expert-driven engineering team.
- A collaborative, international and multicultural working environment.
- A competitive compensation package, through a hire under the “Employer of Record” model
