Lead procurement and spend analysis for a public university system, reconciling and classifying records across campuses and reporting years while preserving traceability and documenting data-quality resolutions. Prepare clean datasets and coverage statements for dashboards and reports, collaborate with data science and dashboard teams, and serve as the primary analyst or task lead on smaller assignments.
TechSilo is a small technology and engineering services firm in Fredericksburg, Virginia. We support federal defense customers, including a multi-year Navy engineering program, and we are growing into higher education and public-sector analytics. The team is small and senior, and our CEO is the Program Director on this work, so your review goes to decision makers directly.
Turn thousands of messy purchase records into a clear picture. One supplier appears under three spellings. A case of bottles sits next to a single bottle in the same column. Campuses count the same thing in different units. You work out what the records really say, fix them in a way anyone can check, and hand the client data they can trust. This is the hands-on work the whole project depends on, and you will do much of it.
What you'll do
Lead procurement and spend analysis for a public university system: what is bought, from whom, where, and how it is changing.
Reconcile and classify records across campuses and reporting years, and build the crosswalks that make them comparable.
Keep original values traceable, and log data-quality problems and how each was resolved.
Write a coverage statement for every dataset: who reported, which periods, what is missing.
Prepare clean datasets for dashboards and reports, and work with the Data Scientist and dashboard developers.
Serve as primary analyst or Task Lead on smaller assignments.
How the role works
Hours are authorized Task Order by Task Order, typically 15 to 30 per week when work is active. There is no guaranteed minimum, and the role starts only if the contract is awarded. You set your schedule within the delivery dates. Finalists will be asked to sign a commitment letter so we can name them in our proposal, and their resume may be shared with the client.
Required qualifications
Bachelor's degree in analytics, business, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
At least 7 years of professional experience in data analysis.
Advanced SQL and Excel, plus Python or R for cleaning and reconciling data.
Experience reconciling and cleaning large, inconsistent datasets from multiple sources, including normalizing supplier, product, and unit data.
A habit of documenting every transformation so another analyst can repeat it.
Clear written explanations of what the data shows and where it stops.
Based in the US and able to work remotely, part-time, in TechSilo's managed environment.
Preferred
Experience with procurement or spend analytics, including commodity or product classification.
Experience with sustainability, food, plastics, or waste data.
Work for a university, a public agency, or another organization made of many separate entities.
