What You'll Do:
You'll be the kind of person who:
Purpose of role:
Analyze, breakdown, estimate, quote costings and prepare the customized bid, ensuring that structural steel projects are accurately costed, competitively prices and financially viable for both the company and its clients.
- Review and analyze project and site plans, drawings, specifications and related documents
- Review commercial conditions and contract documents.
- Raise and manage Request for Information (RFI) for clarification
- Attend site visits and pre-tender meetings to understand the project, site conditions and clients’ requirements Quantify structural steel and other materials based on architectural/structural drawings and specifications
- Calculate project costs for all labour, equipment, equipment rental and other expenses whilst considering rates and productivity
- Obtain and incorporate subcontractor quotes, inclusive of materials, buy-outs, machining, installation and other project specific needs
- Prepare detailed bid proposals outlining scope, pricing and other necessary information for client submission Evaluate potential risks and uncertainties including contingencies to cover unforeseen costs and issues
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers and other team members to ensure accurate and complete cost estimates Review past projects and recommend cost saving measures through the lifecycle of the project without compromising quality or safety
- Communicate with clients to resolve concerns and understand their needs, whilst providing regular updates Negotiate project scope, pricing and timelines to achieve mutual beneficial agreements
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously, whilst priortising tasks based on deadlines and taking into account the resources needed and allowing for delivery
- Assist in the smooth handover of project details to the project delivery team
- Revise and update cost estimates as required, accounting for design, scope changes or clients directed variations Contact client prior to tender submission to gain market intelligence for competitor's price
- Make contact with client to check the quote has been received as a first point of contact and to establish marketing position at price submission
- Send "sale email" to Director as per template for all submissions, when the quote is first sent off to client
- Regular follow-up on submitted bids to check project status
- Cross check other estimators work when required
- Prepare for weekly sales meeting with all project details
- Working knowledge of Bluebeam or any other measurement software.

Experience:
- Previous experience as a commercial structural estimator Exposure to the building / construction industry
- Experience reading and interpreting plans and working drawings
- High level of competency with MS Office Suite (particularly with MS Excel) Contract administration experience
Knowledge
- Be familiar with all company policies, procedures and work instructions relevant to your scope of work
- Work within the scope of company policy and industry best practice
- Take care when using plant, equipment and facilities
- Present to work fit for duty and maintain a clean, tidy and organised work area
