Position Summary

The Sr. Chemical Process Engineer designs, optimizes, and supports chemical manufacturing processes to improve safety, quality, efficiency, reliability, and cost performance. This role partners with Operations, Quality, Maintenance, EHS, Engineering, and Supply Chain teams to troubleshoot issues, implement process improvements, support new product introductions, and ensure regulatory compliance.

This role is part of a global Consumables Technical Operations team providing network-level technical capability team to accelerate problem solving, improve plant performance, and establish engineering and reliability foundations needed for a scalable, high-performing manufacturing network.

 

This is a remote-based role with up to 75% travel. 

What You'll do as a Sr. Chemical Process Engineer

Process Optimization and Standardization

  • Design, troubleshoot, and optimize chemical manufacturing processes.
  • Analyze process data to improve yield, throughput, quality, and reliability.
  • Develop and maintain PFDs, P&IDs, mass/energy balances, and process specifications.
  • Support process scale-up from pilot or laboratory operations to commercial production.
  • Establish and standardize best practices for process and formulation engineering across sites.

Operational Support

  • Provide technical support to manufacturing operations.
  • Investigate process deviations, equipment issues, and production constraints.
  • Lead root cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions (CAPA).
  • Monitor KPIs and recommend performance improvements

Continuous Improvement

  • Lead initiatives focused on safety, quality, productivity, and cost reduction.
  • Apply Lean, Six Sigma, and Operational Excellence methodologies.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce waste, energy consumption, and manufacturing costs.
  • Support automation and process control improvements.

Project Management

  • Lead or support capital and operational improvement projects.
  • Develop project scopes, budgets, schedules, and technical requirements.
  • Coordinate equipment installation, commissioning, validation, and startup activities.
  • Ensure projects are completed safely, on time, and within budget.

Safety, Quality, and Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with EHS, quality, and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in PHA, HAZOP, and risk assessment activities.
  • Support audits, inspections, and validation efforts.
  • Maintain process documentation, SOPs, and engineering standards.

 

The Experience, Skills, and Abilities Needed

Require

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or related field required.
  • 5+ years of process engineering experience in manufacturing, chemical processing, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, specialty chemicals, or related industries.
  • Experience with process optimization and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Chemical/formulation engineering
    • Thermodynamics
    • Heat and mass transfer
    • Fluid mechanics
    • Process controls and chemical processing equipment
    • Experience with Aspen Plus, Aspen HYSYS, CHEMCAD, or similar tools.
    • Knowledge of SPC, data analysis, PFDs, and P&IDs.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
  • Effective communication and cross-functional collaboration abilities.
  • Ability to drive change and influence stakeholders.
  • Detail-oriented with a strong commitment to quality and safety.

Preferred

  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Industrial manufacturing experience preferred.
  • PE license.
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt.
  • Experience in regulated environments (pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device, sterilization, or specialty chemicals).
  • Knowledge of process validation, change management, ERP, and MES systems

Pay range for this opportunity is $107,525.00 - $139,150.00.This position is eligible for bonus participation.

 

Minimum pay rates offered will comply with county/city minimums, if higher than range listed.  Pay rates are based on a number of factors, including but not limited to local labor market costs, years of relevant experience, education, professional certifications, foreign language fluency, etc.
