The Senior Business Analyst leads the translation of complex business needs into scalable ERP solutions and manages end-to-end project delivery. They also act as a subject matter expert, mentoring junior staff and driving process improvement initiatives across the organization.

Senior Business Analyst

The Senior Business Analyst plays a lead role in translating complex business needs into actionable, scalable solutions across the organization’s Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems and other core business platforms. This role partners directly with senior leadership, IT, and cross-functional business units to lead requirements gathering, process design, and end-to-end delivery of technology and process improvement initiatives. The Senior Business Analyst acts as a subject matter expert who mentors junior analysts, champions best practices in business analysis, and is trusted to independently manage ambiguous, high-visibility projects from discovery through post-implementation support.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Lead requirements elicitation with business stakeholders and senior leadership, translating complex business needs into clear business requirements documents (BRDs), functional specifications, user stories, and process maps.
  • Own end-to-end business process design and documentation for enterprise systems (ERP and other core platforms), partnering with business owners to ensure processes are efficient, scalable, and well governed.
  • Serve as the senior point of contact and trusted advisor for business units on system capabilities, workflow design, and process improvement, independently resolving complex or ambiguous issues and escalating only when necessary.
  • Lead discovery and design workshops with cross-functional teams, IT, and external vendors to define solutions, evaluate trade-offs, and align stakeholders around a shared roadmap.
  • Analyze system and process performance data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities; develop dashboards, reports, and insights that inform leadership decision-making.
  • Drive process improvement initiatives from ideation through implementation, applying structured methodologies (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma, or similar) and building supporting standard operating procedures.
  • Lead full project lifecycle management for system rollouts and enhancements, including planning, resourcing, user acceptance testing (UAT), training, go-live, and post-implementation support.
  • Partner with IT, engineering, and external partners to scope, prioritize, and implement new features; troubleshoot complex issues and drive root-cause resolution.
  • Develop business cases, cost-benefit analyses, and ROI models to support prioritization and investment decisions for new initiatives.
  • Mentor and provide guidance to junior and associate business analysts, reviewing their work and helping develop their business analysis skill set.
  • Support change management efforts for new systems and processes, including communication planning, training materials, and end-user adoption strategies.
  • Participate in and help facilitate Agile ceremonies (backlog grooming, sprint planning, retrospectives) where applicable, maintaining well-groomed backlogs and clear acceptance criteria.
  • Understand and demonstrate safe work practices at all times to ensure a safe work environment.
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures.
  • Complete special projects and other duties as assigned by your supervisor.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Advanced business analysis skills, including process mapping (e.g., BPMN or similar notation), requirements elicitation, and gap analysis, with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Deep experience working with technical systems and data – specifically ERP platforms (e.g., NetSuite, Oracle), analytics tools, learning management systems, and SharePoint.
  • Working knowledge of SQL and/or data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) sufficient to query, validate, and present data independently.
  • Strong understanding of both Agile and Waterfall SDLC methodologies, with the ability to flex approach based on project needs.
  • Exceptional problem analysis and solving abilities, with a track record of resolving ambiguous, cross-functional problems.
  • Proven experience partnering with and influencing stakeholders at all levels of an organization, including senior leadership and executives.
  • Strong facilitation skills, able to lead workshops, drive alignment, and manage competing priorities among stakeholders.
  • Excellent multi-tasking and project management skills, with demonstrated ability to lead multiple concurrent initiatives.
  • Strongly focused on the end-user with an innate curiosity and desire to continuously improve experience and processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and develop junior team members and elevate the business analysis practice.
  • Strong sense of ownership and ability to work independently in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment, prioritizing effectively.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare and deliver presentations to senior leadership.

Experience and Credentials

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Management Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent work experience; Master’s degree a plus.
  • 5+ years of progressive business analyst experience, including at least 2 years operating in a senior, lead, or mentorship capacity.

  • Demonstrated experience leading full-cycle system implementations or major enhancements as a project manager and/or senior business/IT specialist.
  • Proven experience in end-user experience design, user acceptance testing (UAT), and post-go-live support.
  • Experience with SQL, data querying, or reporting/visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) preferred.
  • Familiarity with standard office and operational administrative practices and procedures.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to deliver an excellent customer and stakeholder experience at all levels of the organization.
  • Highly self-motivated, with a demonstrated ability to work independently and lead without formal authority.
