The client is looking for a Senior AU Tax Accountant who will be responsible for undertaking all production accounting activities, including the preparation, review, and analysis of financial statements and taxation requirements while delivering high-quality, professional accounting outcomes. This role provides high-level tax and accounting support to the Manager and client base and assists the Partner/Director in leading, coaching, mentoring, and supporting the performance of the team.

What You’ll Do
  • Deliver tax, accounting, and advisory services as required by clients or directed by the Manager.
  • Prepare and review basic to high-complexity tax returns and financial statements.
  • Prepare and review GST, BAS, and IAS lodgments.
  • Complete other compliance documents and regulatory requirements as needed.
  • Identify and escalate any concerning matters to the Manager, including discrepancies in tax assessments, compliance matters, or service delivery issues.
  • Review ATO correspondence, promptly raise concerns, and ensure matters are addressed in a timely manner.
  • Manage workflow effectively to ensure all client deliverables are completed accurately and within agreed timelines.
  • Manage invoicing and Work in Progress (WIP) to support efficient billing and revenue recognition.
  • Achieve a minimum monthly billable output target of AUD 30,000 while maintaining accuracy and quality standards.
  • Ensure billings are accurate, complete, timely, and compliant with client and internal requirements.
  • Maintain a consistent pipeline of billable work and productivity to support current and future billing targets.
  • Proactively follow up on pending client information, outstanding requirements, and potential delays that may impact deliverables or billings.
  • Promptly communicate and coordinate any issues, risks, or roadblocks that may affect billable output, workflow, or client deadlines.
  • Actively participate in firm-provided training and professional development activities, while demonstrating a commitment to continuous learning and performance improvement.
  • Support, coach, and mentor team members, contributing to a collaborative and high performing team environment.

Requirements

What You Bring
We’re looking for someone who:
  • Has at least 5+ years of experience in Australian tax accounting.
  • Has experience preparing SMSF, Company, Individual, Trust, and Partnership tax returns and financial statements.
  • Possesses excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
  • Has strong working knowledge of Australian tax legislation, GST, BAS, and IAS requirements.
  • Has at least 5+ years of experience using HandiSoft.
  • Is proficient in accounting software including APS, AccountRight, Xero, MYOB, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Demonstrates strong attention to detail, time management, and the ability to manage competing priorities while meeting billable targets.
  • Takes a proactive approach to problem-solving, stakeholder communication, and workflow management.
  • Has experience reviewing work, providing guidance to junior accountants, and supporting team performance.

  • Consistently achieve a minimum monthly billable output of AUD 30,000.
  • Deliver accurate, compliant, and timely tax and accounting work with minimal rework required.
  • Effectively manage workflow, WIP, and client deadlines.
  • Maintain strong utilization and productivity levels through proactive workload planning.
  • Communicate risks and potential delays early and collaborate with stakeholders to resolve issues promptly.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement, professional development, and overall team performance.
