We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented SBA Closing Specialist to join our SBA Lending team. This position is responsible for preparing, processing, documenting, funding, and servicing SBA loans in accordance with bank policies, SBA regulations, and credit approval requirements.
The SBA Closing Specialist serves as a key liaison between lenders, underwriters, borrowers, attorneys, brokers, and the SBA, ensuring a seamless loan closing process from approval through funding and post-closing review. This role requires strong knowledge of SBA lending procedures, regulatory compliance, and loan documentation.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Loan Documentation and Closing
Review approved credit packages to determine documentation and collateral requirements necessary for loan closing.
Verify loan purpose, SBA compliance requirements, collateral requirements, and adherence to approval conditions.
Review UCC searches, SBA documentation, and related agreements to ensure proper collateral position.
Create and maintain SBA loan files in accordance with SBA and bank filing standards.
Coordinate with closing attorneys to provide all required documentation for loan preparation and closing.
Relationship Management
Serve as the primary point of contact among lenders, underwriters, borrowers, attorneys, brokers, and SBA representatives throughout the closing process.
Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders to ensure timely and accurate loan closings.
Compliance and Due Diligence
Ensure all compliance requirements are completed prior to closing, including:
Customer Identification Program (CIP)
Bank Secrecy Act (BSA)
USA PATRIOT Act requirements
Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC)
CAIVRS verification
SAM.gov verification
Secretary of State status verification
Maintain compliance with SBA Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), lending regulations, and bank policies.
Third-Party Vendor Coordination
Order and manage third-party reports, including:
UCC searches
Flood certifications
Preliminary title reports
Appraisals
Environmental reviews
Construction inspections, when applicable
Post-Closing Responsibilities
Conduct post-closing reviews to ensure completeness and accuracy of loan documentation.
Submit completed loan packages to Loan Operations for booking.
Partner with servicing staff to establish and maintain exception tracking and tickler systems until all exceptions are resolved.
QualificationsEducation and Experience
Associate degree from an accredited college or technical school preferred; equivalent experience will be considered.
Minimum of two (2) years of experience in SBA lending, loan closing, loan operations, commercial lending support, or a related banking function.
Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of lending policies, procedures, and loan documentation.
Strong understanding of SBA lending requirements and compliance regulations.
Knowledge of federal and state banking regulations.
General business and financial acumen.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and banking software systems.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team setting.
Working Conditions
Frequent use of computers, telephones, copiers, printers, and other office equipment.
Regular interaction with internal and external customers, requiring effective verbal and written communication.
Ability to occasionally lift and move items weighing up to 40 pounds.
Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and retrieve files and materials.
Standard schedule of Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week, with occasional overtime as business demands require.
