EY helps utilities organizations transform their operations through innovative SAP solutions that improve efficiency, enhance customer experiences, and support regulatory compliance. We work with clients across the utility value chain, helping them navigate complex business and technology transformations from strategy through execution.

As an SAP IS-U FI-CA Senior Consultant, you will deliver hands-on configuration and support for utility receivables, payments, collections, and financial processing in SAP IS-U Contract Accounts Receivable and Payable (FI-CA). You will help ensure accurate processing and reconciliation across the meter-to-cash lifecycle while working closely with business stakeholders, technical teams, and connected workstreams.

Your key responsibilities

In this role, you will work with clients and internal teams to deliver SAP IS-U FI-CA solutions. You will apply your functional knowledge, analytical skills, and utility industry experience to support accurate receivables processing, efficient payment and collection operations, and successful project delivery. This position may require regular travel to meet client needs. Key responsibilities include:

  • Configuring and supporting FI-CA contract accounts, business-partner relationships, main and subtransactions, account determination, posting controls, and open-item processing.
  • Designing and testing payment processing, payment lots, bank-statement or payment-file interfaces, cash-desk flows, payment allocation, returns, refunds, and reversals, as applicable.
  • Configuring clearing strategies, dunning, collections, installment plans, promise-to-pay, security deposits, write-offs, and other receivables processes.
  • Supporting FI-CA events and BRF+ rules where used for process control, automation, and exception handling.
  • Analyzing FI-CA integration with General Ledger, reconciliation, period-end processing, and impacts to billing, tax, and customer-service transactions.
  • Preparing functional designs, configuration documentation, test cases, process flows, and other project deliverables.
  • Executing unit and integration testing and supporting user acceptance testing, regression testing, close-cycle validation, and defect resolution.
  • Working with Billing, Customer Service, Retail Choice, banking partners, collection agencies, and FI/CO teams to resolve end-to-end process and interface defects.
  • Providing production support, root-cause analysis, reconciliation assistance, and functional guidance to business users and technical teams.
  • Collaborating with client stakeholders and project leadership to communicate issues, clarify requirements, and support timely solution decisions.
  • Providing knowledge transfer and functional guidance to client teams and junior project team members.

Skills and attributes for success

To thrive in this role, you will need a combination of SAP IS-U FI-CA functional knowledge, utility industry experience, and strong client-service skills. Your ability to analyze complex financial processes, collaborate across teams, and communicate clearly will be important to delivering successful outcomes.

  • Strong functional knowledge of SAP IS-U FI-CA and the broader utility meter-to-cash process.
  • Hands-on knowledge of payment processing, clearing, collections, dunning, open-item management, and FI-CA account determination.
  • Understanding of FI-CA integration with SAP IS-U Billing and FI/CO General Ledger, including reconciliation and period-end considerations.
  • Ability to translate business, regulatory, and operational requirements into practical SAP IS-U FI-CA functional designs.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to investigate processing and reconciliation exceptions and identify root causes.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with business, functional, technical, and integration teams.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain functional requirements and solution decisions to business and technology stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage assigned deliverables, dependencies, risks, and priorities in a client-service environment.

To qualify for the role, you must have

  • A bachelor's degree.
  • Typically, no less than 3 - 4 years of SAP IS-U or SAP Utilities experience, including hands-on experience with SAP IS-U FI-CA.
  • Hands-on experience delivering functional requirements, configuration or solution design, testing, and production support in a utility environment.
  • Hands-on experience with payment processing, clearing, collections, dunning, open-item management, and FI-CA account determination.
  • Understanding of FI-CA integration with SAP IS-U Billing and FI/CO General Ledger, including reconciliation and period-end considerations.
  • Understanding of meter-to-cash processes and the dependencies among FI-CA, Billing, Customer Service, Retail Choice, FI/CO, and connected systems.
  • Experience preparing functional specifications, configuration documentation, test scenarios, process flows, and other project documentation.
  • Experience executing unit and integration testing and supporting user acceptance testing, regression testing, defect resolution, close-cycle validation, cutover, and production stabilization.
  • Experience working with business users, technical teams, and project stakeholders to resolve functional and cross-workstream issues.
  • Strong analytical, communication, problem-solving, and stakeholder-management skills.
  • A flexibility and willingness to travel to meet client needs; travel is estimated at 40-60%.

Ideally, you'll also have

  • Prior consulting experience.
  • Experience with SAP S/4HANA Utilities and high-volume FI-CA processing.
  • Exposure to payment service providers, bank interfaces, collection agencies, or automated reconciliation.
