About the Role:

 As a Risk and Safety Consultant , AKA Loss Prevention Specialist, you will serve as the subject matter expert regarding Loss Control Safety & Health services for SFM’s policy holders. You will support SFM’s mission to “do the right thing” and find ways improve the overall safety for workers and mitigate work related injuries.  Visiting various businesses seeking ways to improve employee safety and reduce losses is a critical part of the position. You will act as a trusted advisor and subject matter expert for complex and large workers’ compensation accounts. In this impactful role, you’ll help organizations improve workplace safety, reduce risk, and minimize loss through strategic consultation, training, and partnership. Working on a multi-functioning team, you will strive to deliver exceptional customer service and inspire a safer workplace to protect workers from harm. This position offers lots of variety, focusing on assisting our customers, who are our policy holders, increase their safety awareness while adhering to departmental and company guidelines and standards.  If you would like to provide thoughtful leadership and have an interest in improving workplace environments, you need to apply for this job. What You’ll Do:

  • Lead comprehensive risk assessments of policyholder operations, management controls, and loss history and create reports outlining the risk analysis and share with customers to improve or reduce frequency and severity of workplace incidents
  • make recommendations to control customers’ source of risk, loss and/or costs.
  • Interpret and apply OSHA, ANSI, and other safety standards; educate clients on compliance and best practices
  • Establish a full-range service plans through complex assessment of management controls, physical operations, and loss history. Work with medium-sized premium policyholders and large account policyholders.
  • As needed, evaluates, review, and monitors routine environmental and occupational disease exposures to determine degree of risk.
  • Plan and present safety-related educational programs to control exposures for policyholders and provide training if necessary.
  • Provides risk assessment information internally to the respective business teams and works collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Interact with team members, policyholders and agents to achieve individual and team goals.
  • Provide first-class customer service to all customers and complies with customer service standards.
  • Mentor team members and contribute to a collaborative, high-performing environment.

What We’ll Like About You:

  • Bachelor’s degree in safety, risk management or science preferred.  Direct safety field experience can be substituted for a four-year degree.
  • Six plus years’ experience working in a safety-related field (manufacturing or construction setting) or working with an insurance company.
  • Master’s degree in safety, risk management or science preferred.
  • CSP, CRM or similar insurance designation.
  • Knowledge of applicable state and federal regulations related to workers’ compensation insurance, safety and OSHA.
  • Excellent presentation and facilitation skills and the ability to develop and conduct training programs.
  • Strong time management skills and ability to work independently.
  • Excellent customer service skills and demonstrated ability to build and sustain relationships.
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
  • Flexibility in scheduling to accommodate customer’s needs, which may require overnight stays.

      The base pay posted is just one component of SFM’s total compensation package. The salary range listed represents the full compensation range for this position. Job title and starting pay will be based on the selected candidate’s relevant knowledge, skills, abilities and/or experience, and education, if applicable as well as internal equity with other employees in the same job classification. #SFM

       Work Environment and Physical Demands

      Regular attendance is required. Work takes place in a semi paperless environment within an office setting, either on business premises or other remote location, using standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and copiers, which requires being stationary for extended periods of time.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands and fingers, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms and work with close vision. This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds. Work is performed indoors with little to no exposure to extreme outdoor weather conditions.
