The Regional Growth Director is responsible for driving strategic growth of the AARP Medicare Supplement Insurance program. This role entails translating market strategy into specific, actionable tactics with measurable objectives, outreach initiatives, partnering with the local field sales/director team and marketing strategies to achieve assigned growth targets across all channels.

 

Key responsibilities include fostering meaningful relationships with key agency principals to identify and capitalize on growth opportunities. The Regional Growth Director will design a market plan to emphasize the UHC value proposition, engage and train new agents/agencies, and enhance the skills and knowledge of existing agents/agencies while promoting a culture of portfolio growth.

 

Additionally, the director will swiftly identify and address any issues that may adversely affect the organization by collaborating with internal partners. They will define the local go-to-market strategy and lead efforts in executing this strategy to meet our growth objectives and surpass overall net growth.
Networking with local and/or professional organizations to forge relationships aligned with our vision and values is also essential. 

 

Market Planning/Strategy

  • Define the local go-to market strategy and lead efforts in delivering on that strategy to best meet our growth goals and achieve net growth targets
  • Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of the focused markets within the assigned region including competitors, market/consumer trends, provider groups and agent/agency behaviors
  • Use data to identify trends and opportunities to grow the market and maximize retention
  • Consult with internal marketing partners to maximize the generation of local sales leads, opportunities, and support retention. Ensuring to complement the national brand and support portfolio growth initiatives

Agent & Agency Engagement/Development

  • Consult and partner with key distribution colleagues in the formulation and execution of strategic growth initiatives. Facilitate quarterly reviews to solicit feedback, create growth strategies and strengthen the relationship
  • Identify new key agency principals/owners to provide an on-going refreshment of new talent in the markets to diversify growth and retention strategies
  • Understand, perfect, and effectively communicate the UHC value proposition to our agent/agency partners. Equip and empower our partners to become UHC brand ambassadors that delight in their experience and choose us as their carrier of choice. Confidently own and impart the value of UnitedHealthcare!
  • Assess recruiting needs by market and leverage agency relationships to fill the needs in specific areas for growth
  • Oversee market specific trainings for agents, agencies, providers, and influencers
  • Provide consistent agency communication

Leadership

  • Lead by example in holding yourself to a high degree of excellence, accountability, and standards (operational discipline, business planning, stewardship of resources and compliance)
  • Drive innovation and evolve strategies in the region with an eye for new opportunities to increase efficiencies, resource allocation and creating ease of doing business for constituents
  • Align with your respective VPs on strategy and execution plans for their markets
  • Use Power BI and FLP to prioritize workload and document activity in FLP

New Med Supp Agent Development

  • Identify opportunities for agents to incorporate Med Supp into their sales portfolio
    • New Agents
    • Existing agents who used to sell
    • Existing agents with opportunity based on local market dynamics
  • Execute on designed agent-level plan to sell within first 90 days and create a successful early launch for the agent
  • Identify new producing agents with a set number of enrollments and with potential to produce more. Reach out to them to support their UHC production
  • Use the full resources / reporting capabilities to enable growth and retention of Med Supp

Outreach Strategies (Community, Provider, DTU, et al.)

  • Partner with your assigned Sales Distribution colleagues to engage in and manage new and existing strategic account development: prospecting, consultation, building strategic alliances, compelling proposals, relationship management and creating/closing opportunities
  • Identify new sales opportunities and relationships to grow the market with unique and innovative growth solutions

Market Support

  • Identify and effectively resolve issues/problems in a way that supports the long-term goals of the organization and meets the immediate needs of the situation
  • Leverage UHC tools for sales and retention opportunities and gaps to act upon
  • Partner with Key Stakeholders (VP, Med Sup Liaison) to understand trends in sales, disenrollment, and retention outliers as well as compliance concerns

Required Qualifications: 

  • Current health insurance license
  • 3+ years of experience successful sales experience representing insurance products that cater to the senior market
  • 3+ years of experience presenting in large group/executive settings
  • 3+ years of experience working with and training insurance agents
  • Ability to travel up to 50%25 in assigned US market/region
  • Experience selling Medicare Supplements

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you’ll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $90,000 to $195,000 annually based on full-time employment. This role is also eligible to receive bonuses based on sales performance. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
