Key responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end project delivery for multiple large BESS projects or one major program, including planning, permitting support, procurement oversight, construction, commissioning, and closeout.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules, resource plans, and critical-path analyses; drive on-time milestone achievement.
  • Own project budgets, cost forecasting, and change-order management; identify and implement cost-control measures to protect margins.
  • Manage EPC contractors, subcontractors, vendors, and third-party service providers; set performance expectations and hold teams accountable.
  • Coordinate technical integration across civil, electrical, civil balance-of-plant (BOP), HVAC, fire suppression, and battery systems; ensure design intent is executed in the field.
  • Ensure strict compliance with safety programs, environmental permits, local building codes, interconnection requirements, and utility standards.
  • Lead commissioning and turnover activities with commissioning engineers, testing vendors, utilities, and owners; resolve punch-list items and warranty transitions.
  • Identify, mitigate, and escalate project risks and issues; drive decisive issue resolution with stakeholders.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, utilities, permitting authorities, and community stakeholders; represent the company at public meetings as required.
  • Mentor and develop project teams, site superintendents, and junior project managers; promote continuous improvement and lessons-learned practices.

Required qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 8+ years of construction project management experience with at least 4 years leading large utility-scale energy, power, or industrial projects; proven experience in energy storage projects strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated track record managing multi-discipline contractors on projects sized at 10s of MW / multiple MWh (or larger).
  • Strong knowledge of electrical construction, high-voltage systems, substation work, civil/site development, and BESS-specific components (battery racks, PCS, HVAC, fire suppression).
  • Proficiency with project scheduling and document-control tools (MS Project, Primavera, Procore, or equivalent).
  • Outstanding leadership, negotiation, and stakeholder-communication skills; experience interfacing with utilities and permitting authorities.
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel frequently to project sites.

Preferred skills and certifications

  • Professional certifications such as PMP, CCM, or equivalent.
  • OSHA 30, First Aid/CPR, or site-safety leadership credentials.
  • Experience with grid interconnection processes, utility commissioning, and protective relay testing.
  • Familiarity with battery chemistry safety considerations, NFPA 855 and local fire code requirements.
  • Experience working in fast-paced, high-growth technology or energy companies and leading cross-functional teams in matrixed organizations.

Working conditions and reporting

  • Combination of office (program management, stakeholder meetings) and frequent fieldwork; extended hours during critical construction or commissioning phases.
  • Reports to Director of Project Management; direct oversight of on-site superintendents, project engineers, and external contractors.
  • Role will require travel domestically and occasional overnight stays; site locations may be remote and require adaptation to variable site conditions.
